What's wrong with Perch?? Apart from when he plays at fullback, the bloke always puts in solid performances and plays very well next to a big CB. He can fill in for the likes of Colo very well.

Thanks **** Jonas isn't playing he's ****, however it means Pardew will play him in premier league games until we get relegated no doubt. Pardews persistance with Jonas flaming Gutierez this season is all the evidence anyone should need to realise how thick Pardew really is. The man can't even string out three words without saying eeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr for goodness sake. He says we was all the time also.

Perch and Saylor would be good. Perch and Mbiwa would get torn apart.

I can tell he is an idiot and can't teach good players to play the modern way.

Nothing's really wrong with Perch except that he's about 4" shorter than a CB should ideally be. He has filled in well a number of times but it is a bit unsettling that he is the only person who can even arguably fill in.

Back 5 of Elliot, Simpson, Perch Saylor and Santon is the sort of thing I'd hoped we'd left behind.

Should be able to do well. Thought we should have smacked them home and away but it is 1-0 for the home team in each game. Lacina Traore can be a hand full and Eto'o is still one to watch. Outside of that they should really only be decent enough. I think you lot should handle them fairly comfortably if I am honest.

Hopefully he'll give Haidara another run out at LB. Maybe Santon at RB?

I don't get this quote from Pards:

"I didn't have any intention of bringing Shola," said Newcastle manager Alan Pardew. "[The Luzhniki Stadium] is a surface that he's been advised in the past not really to play on."

Surely standing still on plastic is not much different to standing still on grass?

Sounds like a good argument to start Adam Campbell. Don't want Shola hurting his hip trundling around on an artificial pitch when Cisse is our only other senior striker for the crucial league run in.

Thought SJP was a surface he'd been advised not to play on.

Anzhi's progress to the last 16:

Entering two rounds before us, Anzhi have been playing Europa League games since mid July.

2QR: Honved (won 1-0 home, won 4-0 away)
3QR: Vitesse Arnhem (won 2-0 home, won 2-0 away)
PO: AZ Alkmaar (won 1-0 home, won 5-0 away)
GS: Udinese (won 2-0 home, drew 1-1 away)
GS: Young Boys (won 2-0 home, lost 1-3 away
GS: Liverpool (won 1-0 home, lost 0-1 away)
L32: Hannover (won 3-1 home, drew 1-1 away)

So that's a 100% win record wherever "home" is and six clean sheets out of seven there. They've scored 26 goals to date, Eto'o notching 9 and Lacina Traore 5.

Looking forward to the game. We need to handle their twin threats up front, a 2m tall giant and Samuel Etoo.
