It's reported that Lakshmi Mittal is to launch a takeover bid for QPR on Monday... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...eize-full-control-of-Queens-Park-Rangers.html Hopefully this will be more than newspaper tittle-tattle, but it would be the logical conclusion of Mittal's investment. Briatore is the fly-in-the-ointment as usual according to this valueing Rangers at ã100 million...
Yes please! I can't think of much better news we could receive. If it happens, maybe we could get closer to the budget that we all would like. However, these things take time, any deal may not happen quickly enough and deals for new players will have to be put in place in the next couple of months.
The budget could be misleading. The wages budget is as important. Agreeing a fee for the player is only half the battle, you then have to agree his wages.
Isn't it strange how we all get excited when the papers print stories about things that we want to hear. Mittal takeover ... ã40m available for transfers ... etc. Remember that this is in "The Sun", the most popular(?) tabloid in the country, famed for it's accurancy of reporting like "QPR to be docked 15 points" and "Warnock to be sacked". I really, really, really hope that the essence of the story is true and that the Mittals can take a majority share in the club.
1. I really want to believe this. 2. It's printed in the Sun. I think there's a term for that kind of dilemma
As I pointed out, I hope this is more than newspaper tittle-tattle. It is The Sun and fairy stories are often their forte, however, you have to ask yourselves why the Mittals came on board in the first place and what point would there be in Amit Bhatia taking such a high-profile role in the club? I don't think this can happen overnight but would hope it does happen before the best players are snapped up. Wishful thinking but we can all dream...
Eamon how right you are regarding The Sun newspaper, but ã40 million would be a massive boost for Neil Warnock going into the Premier League, I so hope that the Mittals are successful in their bid.
Got up in a really good mood this morning, now I've seen this, I'm almost skipping! Please let this be true!
I think it's obvious that Mittal would rather own the club himself. He's the really rich one out of the 3 and I doubt he likes playing second fiddle to anyone. But he knows the club isn't worth anywhere near the figure placed on it by Bernie. That estimate would only be accurate if we had a new and bigger stadium, and had also won some silverware. But no club can possibly be worth that when it made a net loss of, what was it? 30 million over 2-3 years? My biggest fear is that Mittal will hold out until he can buy at a sensible price, while other investors might pay over the odds just to get the club. But wouldn't it be nice if it were true and did happen! But forget all these figures that are being touted by the sun. They are jumping on the obvious and then pulling figures out of the air so the article isn't just a couple of lines long. I don't think it would matter if we had Shiek Mansor begging Warnock to spend his money, Warnock is not that kind of manager and I don't think he could handle more than one prima donna in the team. So regardless of how much money he has at his disposal, his purchases will always raise an eyebrow and leave us slightly flat. But remember the mantra, "In Warnock we trust"!
Brilliant news if true. I think 100% of Qpr supporters want this to happen. Maybe Mittal got the 'Qpr bug' the last few games of the season when his name was being called. ..............This is 'The Sun' though, so dont take it as gospel. Fingers crossed
The prospect of Mittal imminantly upping his stake is not new. What is, is that once again Briatore is in there somewhere screwing things up for us with a grossly inflated ã100m valuation of a club that has been struggling to cope with significant debt for years and a limited 18,600 gate capacity. There has to be a grain of truth in the Sun story. If Rangers are to capitalise on Warnock's success, the ownership question has to be sorted - and soon. The Mittal family (and Ishan Saksena if he's still around) know a lot more about football, QPR and money than Ecclestone and Briatore and whilst frugal, well know from Lakshmi's recent comments, where the team needs strengthening and what the costing implications are. If the essence of the Sun's 'revelations' are untrue - we're ****ed, end of.
Do the Mittals want to buy the club outright or buy a controlling interest? Big difference. I have a feeling that the ã40m reported in The Sun might be partly correct, BUT ã40m could be the total amount that they would want to spend. ã20m+ would buy control of the club, then there could be ã10m for transfer fees and ã10m for increased wages (including wages for more high profile loans.) Spending ã40m in transfer fees would mean some great signings, but it would increase the wage bill of God knows how much. ã20,000 / week = ã1m a year.
I stopped reading The Sun after that pathetic article. Absoutley terrible paper, cheap crap. Even 25p is to much
He could have bought the club outright any time he wanted to particularly when Briatori was looking to offload his shares. He didn't. I can see nothing that has really changed to make him change his mind. Prem status just increases the cost of a club in which he already enjoys the level of input he is interested in. Bernie will need to make his killing elsewhere methinks.
