Bernie Ecclestone has today confirmed Neil Warnock will lead QPR into the Barclays Premier League next season. The likes of Marcello Lippi, Claudio Ranieri, Giovanni Trapattoni and Martin Jol have all been linked with the Rangers job even though Warnock is the man in position, having just secured promotion by finishing top of the npower Championship. Majority shareholder Ecclestone, however, has made it clear Warnock is not going anywhere. Speaking in the paddock at Barcelonaââ¬â¢s Circuit de Catalunya ahead of todayââ¬â¢s Spanish Grand Prix, the 80-year-old said: ââ¬ÅHeââ¬â¢s staying ââ¬â 100%. ââ¬ÅWeââ¬â¢ve never discussed anything about him leaving. Heââ¬â¢s never wanted to leave and we donââ¬â¢t want to get rid of him. ââ¬ÅHeââ¬â¢s absolutely taking the club into the Premier League.ââ¬Â Ecclestone has also dismissed suggestions of a potential takeover of the club by another shareholder, Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal. It has been claimed Mittal will launch a bid for the club tomorrow, but Ecclestone says he is unaware of any likely approach. Formula One supremo Ecclestone likened it to rumours surrounding a takeover of the motor sport by Rupert Murdoch. Ecclestone added: ââ¬ÅMittal put a statement out to say he was going to buy all the shares on Monday. ââ¬ÅBut itââ¬â¢s a bit like these Murdoch people saying theyââ¬â¢re going to buy CVC (F1ââ¬â¢s commercial rights holders). They have forgotten to ask if itââ¬â¢s for sale.ââ¬Â
This is all getting a bit like the FA charges story, claim, counter claim innuendo etc. When the stories suit us weare prepared to believe them no matter what the source, and when we don't like them we dismiss them as rubbish. I guess we'll just have to wait for the official announcement- if any is forthcoming.
Bernie & Flav started to distance themselves from us last year and it was down to Bhatia to take hold of the situation and get Warnock in. As success looked more and more on the cards, Bernie & Flav all of a sudden had a keen interest in us. Funny that.
Bernie seems to have a point about the shares for sale. QPR is not stock market quoted anymore, so it is effectively a private company, and unless Mittal has an option to buy, I can't see how he can be sure about buying the shares.
What does Bernie want? On the one hand he was talking about selling a few weeks ago, now he's not. If he sits by and spends sod all he'll kill the golden goose as relegation would not be a good selling point. I think Bernie is gonna try and extract the maximum out of Mittal, let's hope he doesn't push it to the point where Mittal sells up...
Life as a QPR supporter is pretty simple. If it can go wrong, it will. Just when you think you know what is going on, it changes. When everything appears on track, we sack the manager. Simple
So true. (private note: tried to rep you again for those refused before... still won't let me despite my having repped others since.)
Will Bernie sell I think so him only saying its not for sale is to get a increased price or the right price imo if mittal offered 100mill right now I think Bernie would snap his hand off.
