For once I'm looking forward to the transfer window - Now that Pepe has confirmed he is staying , we don't have to worry about losing our best players as we have previously. Budget - who knows? The papers are guessing how much we have to spend but the owners aren't going to disclose this. They proved by the signing of Suarez that they are prepared to pay big for the right players , and Pepe staying gives us a hint that there will be a decent spend on quality players. Targets - Linked with so many players but much of this will be paper talk. The only players I know for a fact that we have considered are Charlie Adam, Blaise Matuidi and Sylvin Marveux. We are strongly linked with Enrique and Ashley Young but not so sure that these are actual targets. I hope that we see 3 or 4 top quality players - players of the quality of Suarez & Carroll , and we can start re-building and challening for top 4 again.
Welcome to the board! The summer transfer window is going to be interesting. I think we probably have around ã50M. This would allow us to get some wingers (which are a must) and a left-back. We will also get rid of some players (Poulsen, Konchesky, Jovanovic etc.) which will boost the transfer pot. I then think Kenny will surprise us all with a signing we didn't expect. That's about 4-5 signings and I then believe the youth players will be used as well which will save us some money.
That's about 4-5 signings and I then believe the youth players will be used as well which will save us some money. That's kinda what I was thinking. Any more signings would be too much in my opinion. Left-back , Creative midfielder & at least one wide man will be a priority.
Firstly. The ã50 million transfer budget is ''paper talk''.No Liverpool source has ever mentioned a ''transfer budget''.From what I heard,FSG don't do budgets. They instead say ''give us a list of targets and tell us which are the best for each position and we'll do our best to sign them''.If it means spending ã60+ million on say 4 players, then so be it.They will insist however that all recouped money from sales be reinvested.
Swarbs. That was a circulated rumour. Its like the rumour that Man United have all but signed David De Gea for ã16 million.Whether Athletico Madrid know anything about it is another story.
The Hazard link is just another rumour. I don't expect Kenny / Comolli to comment on any deals unless they are done. As pepe says , I don't think there is any kind of set budget in place. If Kenny / Comolli want 4 players than the owners will decide if they are happy to proceed. As fans , we will have to be patient , as once the season ends the papers will go rumour crazy linking us with all kind of players - any transfers might not be complete til the end of the transfer window as we saw in January.
I'm not sure about transfers, a lot of these young European guys are just names to me. I'v never seen Hazard play! I think we will have again about 50 million straight up to spend, which may swell to 60 odd as players leave. I'd like Young as he is proven in this league, although he isn't getting any younger. As long as we invest I will be happy. I'll leave how good these investments are down to our scouts and Kenny.
Chewing the grass. Firstly welcome to the board mate. From what I can gather,FSG's philosophy on signings is dependent moreso on age, ability and fitting into the squad,ie a left sided full-back,a right sided winger,a left sided winger etc.Every signing will have to ''do what it says on the tin''.Don't expect them to make signings like Michael Carrick ie a one paced midfielder that is not a specialist at anything. So the signings would have to be specialists. They would have to be able to fill a role. For me there has been too many players that don't fit particular roles ie we don't know exactly what they are ie Jovanovic,Cole,Maxi.I reckon that Cole and Jovanovic should both be moved on and Maxi and Pacheco should be retained.Maxi for experience and Pacheco to eventually succeed and learn from him. What I mean is in a nutshell, neither Pacheco and Maxi are wingers, nor are they central midfielders. What needs filling? We need a commanding centre back,so that means Soto moves on. We need a new left back so that means Insua,Konchesky and possibly Aurelio move on. We need a defensive/ball playing midfielder so that means Poulsen and possibly Aquilani moves on. We need two wingers so that means Cole and Jovanovic move on. We need a striker so that means Ngog moves on. Then there is Degen and Darby and El Zhar.Maybe we could sell Darby to a small club like Everton, and just release El Zhar and Degen.
Ah fair enough. I thought the Liverpool Daily Post quoted a club source as saying you had enquired? I'll be happy if it's not true - I rate Hazard pretty highly and don't want him joining your lot
Swarbs. Damien Comolli has a database full of potential targets. Some reports suggest that he has identified 3 players for each position that needs strengthening and both he and Kenny have both identified each area that needs strengthening. However I believe that the number of targets for each position is more than 3.However if Liverpool were to sign every player they were linked with their squad would be twice the size of Citehs and Real Madrids.
Regarding Hazard, I understand we have asked to be kept in the loop about his asking price/other bidders etc. Thus I take it that there is genuine interest (as there should be, he's a good player), albeit without an official bid. So you're right when you say that there's been an enquiry Swarbs.
I know what you mean about the European names, I haven't seen half of them play either. I remember Hazard scoring against us last season when he whipped in that free kick that ended up nestling in the back of the net but that's about it. But still, all this hype can't be for nothing! Young would be a good buy I think, his age isn't really a concern, he's not even 26 yet. My guess is that we'll bring in a couple of foreign stars and a British player or two to boost the squad depth.
I think you will bring in a mixture of players LB - Enrique (Baines is over priced) CM - a talented overseas player LW - Downing or Jarvis RW - Could be a big signing (Young at a big price, Walcott outside chance?), or possibly Kranjier (Spurs) FWD - Expect someone with potential, Suarez, Kyut and Carroll are first choice, maybe Long from Reading?, or someone like Pavlychenco (reasonable price, decent versitile player)
I can see us bidding for charlie ADAM, but we shall see on the price and I would like to look at what else is available, banega, gago. m'villa, etc
Maybe, good player and will be cheaper than he was January. As it's you custard I can't help feeling this is a loaded question?
If I was a Liverpool fan i wouldnt want Downing or Jarvis either, however given that you need 5 players, possibly 6 you will need some cheaper players, your not going to get ã120mil are you? Decent left back is priority, so around 8-9mil, a top winger 15m, decent CM, 10m, top CB 10m, you have spent 40 plus million before signing another striker or winger
