At tonightââ¬â¢s League Managers Association 19th Annual Awards Dinner hosted at The Hilton, Park Lane, London, Manchester Unitedââ¬â¢s Sir Alex Ferguson CBE was honoured with the prestigious LMA Manager of the Year Award. The award, sponsored by Barclays, is voted for by the LMA members which includes all the managers from the top four professional leagues in English football. Sir Alex Ferguson has earned the award as recognition for Manchester Unitedââ¬â¢s excellent season winning the Barclays Premier League title, the 12th title of Ferguson's reign, as well as reaching the UEFA Champions League final for the third time in four seasons. This is in addition to reaching the semi-finals of The FA Cup and the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup. The league triumph also set a record in English football as Manchester United achieved the 19th league title in the clubââ¬â¢s history. In addition to the LMA Manager of the Year, Fergsuon was also awarded the LMA Special Merit Award. During the season, he set two very distinguished personal records by surpassing 2000 games in management and becoming the longest serving manager in Manchester Unitedââ¬â¢s history. Should they defeat Barcelona in the forthcoming Champions League Final, Ferguson would also equal Bob Paisleyââ¬â¢s record of 3 titles with Liverpool in Europeââ¬â¢s most prestigious club tournament. On receiving the awards, Sir Alex Ferguson CBE said: ââ¬ÅIt is wonderful and a great honour to be acknowledged by your peers. I really do appreciate being named LMA Manager of the Year and being honoured with the LMA Special Merit Award. Itââ¬â¢s been such a competitive Barclays Premier League this season and Iââ¬â¢d like to congratulate all of the managers both in this league and throughout the divisions, on a job well done this season. The work the LMA are doing and the foresight they are showing is fantastic. We have to support the belief that we are doing the right things and the help that we can give to all facets of the game. We are getting more recognition now and quite rightly so because we have a great contribution to make.ââ¬Â LMA Chairman, Howard Wilkinson, said: ââ¬ÅSir Alex is fully deserving of this recognition, once again he has demonstrated genius at critical moments this season. Itââ¬â¢s not just his longevity in the game at one of the worldââ¬â¢s biggest clubââ¬â¢s which is remarkable, but his consistent delivery of success, in over 35 years in football management.ââ¬Â Richard Bevan, Chief Executive of the LMA, said: ââ¬ÅTonight is a celebration of this seasonââ¬â¢s managerial achievements across the top four leagues in the professional game. To receive votes from and to be acknowledged by your fellow members, peers and competitors is a great honour. What Sir Alex has achieved this season both personally and with Manchester United is extraordinary. At the LMA we are also extremely grateful for the amount of time and dedication he willingly provides to our association and our members. ââ¬ÅOn behalf of the LMA, I wish Sir Alex and the Manchester United players the very best for this weekââ¬â¢s UEFA Champions League Final at Wembley. It will be a tremendous feat if they can lift the trophy at the home of English football. ââ¬ÅI would also like to say a special thank you to all the members who have contributed to yet another fantastic season.ââ¬Â The full list of awards presented by LMA President - Fabio Capello, LMA Chairman - Howard Wilkinson, and Gareth Southgate are as follows: ââ¬Â¢ LMA Manager of the Year sponsored by Barclays: Sir Alex Ferguson CBE ââ¬Â¢ LMA Special Merit Award sponsored by Barclays: Sir Alex Ferguson CBE ââ¬Â¢ Barclays Premier League Manager of the Year: Sir Alex Ferguson CBE ââ¬Â¢ Barclays Community Sports Award: Rabiyha Ahmed ââ¬Â¢ LMA Service to Football Award sponsored by npower: Jimmy Hill OBE ââ¬Â¢ npower Football League Two Manager of the Year: John Sheridan ââ¬Â¢ npower Football League One Manager of the Year: Gus Poyet ââ¬Â¢ npower Football League Championship Manager of the Year: Paul Lambert http://www.leaguemanagers.com/news/news-6815.html
Agree 100%. Lambert has done a good job at Norwich but Warnock did an even better job for us. Did we not win the Championship?
Warnock is never going to win any peer awards - he has ruffled too many feathers over a long career. Lambert has offended nobody which matters in competitions like this. I don't expect that Norwich will be able to hang on to him for the full season ahead, and then he will revert to being a mere mortal like the rest of them.
QPR TOOK OUT A SUPER INJUNSTION so people couldnt find ou tthey won the league and we wont lose all our top players....dnt worry the super injunction will fail and everyone will find out in a faw months.
We were 2nd bottom of League One when Lambert took over, and as much as last season doesn't mean anything regards this season, last nights award would of surely taken that into account. The 1st team for 11 years to gain two successive promotions to get to the Premier League will not have gone unnoticed, neither would failing to lose two successive games for two seasons along with no team doing "the double" over us in two seasons. Lambert was always going to get the award, and quite frankly, he bloody deserves it.
You can look at it either way. Norwich weren't perhaps as expected to go up whilst we were top of the league for virtually the whole season and remained so despite the conveniently timed Faurlin kerfuffle. If it's managers being voted by their peers then Warnock was never going to have much of a chance was he.
You had only played one league game and one cup game when you sacked your manager so how can comment about being at the bottom of the league If you had given Gunn a little bit of loyalty i'm sure you would still of gained promotion
Lambert done a great job at Norwich, lets make no bones about it. Warnock is a hero, and has also done a bloody amazing job in W12, but I don't begrudge the Canaries this title... We have the only one that matters anyhow
Paul Lambert's achievements over two years are certainly remarkable (more so when reminded that he was the Colchester boss that dispatched the Canaries so emphatically at Carrow Road on the first day... 1-7 was it?). But voting is hardly an exact science... and wasn't this 'luvvies'-do' about this season? Winning the league, on the other hand, is an exact science - and to have done so under such constant demoralising pressure as the prospect of a major points deduction or even relegation for your troubles, is without doubt a stunning and unparalleled achievement in management terms. Clearly, few if any of Warnock's 'peers' would have fancied, much less proven equal to such a challenge themselves. Interesting therefore, given the outcome, that not many would have taken this fantastic achievement into account when deciding who to vote for... Having said this, there's no denying that both managers have done wonders this year on comparitively small budgets - and Paul Lambert's ability to spot a real prospect in the lower leagues is clearly second to none: so big up to him and Norwich for that.
Norwich fan in peace Personally I think they've both done brilliant jobs. Both took over sides that were quite frankly s**t and in the space of two seasons have got both of them promoted. Warnock has used his intelligence and picked up players who know how to get out of the league and added the likes of Taarabt and Faurlin to give them the boost they need whilst dealing with the pressure and expectancy thrust on him to get QPR into the Premier league. At the same time Lambert has compiled a team of players predominantly from the lower leagues and matched and bettered the supposed big clubs in the division. Plus theres the added bonus of back to back promotions for a side tipped to trouble the top ten if they had a REALLY good season. The two things that probably swung it in Lambert's favour were: a) the money QPR had. Granted, Warnock was very clever and hasn't spent as much as some people think, but people see the owners and assume they've splashed he cash b) Warnock himself. As a couple have said already, this is voted for by managers from all four leagues and Warnock has wound up a lot of people over the years.
hahaha, how can you even claim that Warnock deserved it over Lambo. Talk about biased and blinkered. It was always going to be Lambert and deservedly so! P.s. Haha AndyQPR - you got banned
