We do not need him and I believe we should focus on some real talents like Costa and Hazard instead of a over rated English player. We have Nani and Valencia and Park anyway who are all 10 times better than Young. I really hope Liverpool who need a winger can tie up the deal. I hope they outbid us or something.
I don't think we need Young, or indeed any other wingers. Our first choice wide players are great, and we've got youngsters coming through who should be used as back-up.
Young is no better than what we have but would offer at a low price versatility up front. Would be a good squad signing.
What, moving for ã8 million, getting 25 assists and being a stand out player next season? Sounds good to me!
you know what I mean. Your 606 board was going mad in the last few weeks of the summer transfer window! When Spurs signed VDV for 7 million it was hilarious too!
Meh, i know you won the league and all but i'm not sure that not bidding for ozil was a good move considering how good he has turned out to be.
We did bid for him. We had everything agreed with Bremen for him to move to us, then Real came in at the last minute before he could agree personal terms. Just one of those things - didn't we do similar to you with Ronaldo in 2003?
According to Wenger yes, but then he makes bids for every half decent foreign footballer under 19. Anyway I thought you decided to not buy Ozil because there was 'no value on the transfer market'?
No value for 8m? There was always value and Ferguson knew this but Madrid wanted him and that is that. It is nothing to do with money, we signed a unknown player for 4-7m called Bebe and we have signed De Gea for 18m and it will be confirmed soon enough. It was confirmed on sky sports. If 18m for a 20 year old signals we have no money, then what is money?
It was a wee bit more complicated than that. Bremen were asking ã30 million for Ozil until he refused to sign a new contract, which would be a huge amount for a 20 year old. As soon as his contract talks collapsed and the price fell to ã15 million we were in for him, but so were Madrid. By then it was too late - Madrid were already flashing a six figure weekly salary in his face. And they were effectively promising to build their team and system around him, whereas at United he'd have had to learn to fit into our system. The whole "no value" thing has also been greatly overexaggerated. What SAF actually said was that there was no value in terms of what the players available would actually add to the team. Given that we just won the PL by 9 points and are in the final of the CL, you'd have to agree with him
True, but then any team can be improved upon. I think SAF's point is that last summer our squad was good enough to win the title, so it's not worth spending another ã30-40 million on a player who might not add anything and might actually have disrupted the team. This summer it's likely to be different what with Hargreaves, VDS and Neville retiring, and Scholes, Owen, Brown and other players potentially leaving. So spending a lot on a new player is likely to have a bigger impact, and give us more value this summer.
