Strong rumours of us signing him. He's 40 and I think the oldest keeper in the PL. I understand that he would give us experience if Pepe was injured. It is a position that players seem to peak towards the 30's but surely there are better and younger options, Gulacsi is quite highly rated and may not want to go to 3rd choice. What are your thoughts on this rumour.
Would he be prepared to do a player/coach role? If he is, it could work. He would be experienced back-up to Pepe and he could tutor the younger goalkeepers. Can't see it happening though.
Those were my thoughts too. Maybe it would be a 2 year contract with a view to making a transition into a coaching role, which I think he'd be excellent at, with over a decade of PL experience under his belt.
We don't need anymore goalkeeping coaches, from what I remember we already have 2. I think this story is pure speculation at the moment probably spawned when Reina's future was unsure. I think he is and was a brilliant keeper no doubt about it, but surely going by the FSG principles he would be a backwards step in an area I don't think we need much reinforcing.
Some idiots on twitter still read it as him being Reina's replacement. Ok, maybe there was a suggestion back in early April, but by now it's quite clear Reina is staying. The fact of the matter is though, myself or Peter Shilton could be our no.2, because we'd never get on the pitch anyway. Reina is a mainstay.
Don't see the point in Friedel coming back. He's older that the Egypt, and why would he play his last year or 2 on the bench?
