Off the top of my swede his last minute save to deny Zaha at home. brilliant save it was as well.

If you recall we battered them and if we'd robbed at the death not only would we have lost a point it could have knocked us for six confidence wise.

Stockers isn't worth £3 million but he did a good, solid job.

    FACTOID.

decent keeper but only worth 1-2 million , can get better elsewhere for the money Fulham want .

Thing is, it's a team game. Defenders cannot defend well unless they are marshalled well by a good goalkeeper. How often have City fans accused goalies (like Myhill) of being good shot stoppers but being poor at commanding their area ???

Like I say, Stockdale is way overvalued at £3 or £4 million, but equally to say he would be expensive as a free, is ridiculous.

£4 million is a bit optimistic, 1-2 million as already stated is a realistic valuation of Stockdale. Good call about his save against Zaha. This season I used to **** myself how cool he used to deal with some back passes from our defenders. Used to scare the **** out of me for some reason. And also how far off his goal line he used to wander.

I don't mind stockdale, but his kicking isn't the best. The amount of times he's had to deal with charging players from a back pass and it's gone across the floor to one of there players.

Can't for the life of me understand how Joel got ahead of Al Habsi - a kid prone to stupid, nervous mistakes ahead of one of the better keepers in the Premier League.

I feel sorry for him the same way I did for Jaaskelainen at Bolton. Quality goalkeepers whose talents are overlooked because of a dodgy back line.

Can't see us getting Al Habsi though unfortunately - they'll probably just stick with him as Joel will be headed home. I can't see him being on big Premier League wages either so he'll be maintainable.

If our 3 man defence offered options to pass it short then he is kicking wouldn't matter so much. When there is one striker charging at the keeper, the centre backs just need to spread wide and it's job done.

Stockdales calmness, realiability, kicking, positioning and commanding of his area are his strong points, surprised to see anyone criticising him on that.

Also it's defenders who put him under pressure with dodgy back passes, not him, so you can't blame him for that. Just to add to that I'm usually very nervous with any back pass but stocko deals with them brilliantly, usually abbormally calmly with his first touch, and I feel relaxed when the ball does get passed back to him.

Pretty laughable really isn't it. if anything the Premier League is an easier league for goalies and also he has the experience already of playing in it and wasn't found wanting. City fans have no idea about goalies, look at Guzan getting rave reviews now, used to read on forums from our enlightened fans that he was League One standard

I expect Steve Bruce to play hardball with Fulham over this. There is no way that anyone will pay more than £2m for Stockdale and thats being generous. Fulham are trying it on. Patience on the 2nd GK is needed this summer. Maybe Stockdale can influence his departure from within ? :emoticon-0105-wink:

He's got a point. Goalkeepers are the ones you look to have for years, and we've brought in one every three months since we were relegated.

Anyone know how to embed multi-quotes a bit more neatly by the way? It's always a bit messy when I do it!

I don't know how you (and Carmine) embed more than one quote. Whenever I press reply with quote I just get the last quote?

I have no doubts whatsoever that Steve Bruce will have the GK situation more than sorted out come the start of the season.

I'd prefer Mannone or Schmeichel, but wouldn't be disappointed with Stockdale if we managed to get him at a good price. At the moment though, that looks unlikely. I think he suffered from nerves a bit - his first loan spell with us he was comfortable and pulled off some great saves - when he came back he seemed to have quite a few butter-fingers moments towards the end of the season when everything got a bit nervy.

No point paying over the odds either - there are many decent keepers out of contract to get in as back-up and competition for the No.1 slot - Ross Turnbull, Lee Camp, Steve Harper, Manuel Almunia (if Watford don't go up), Paul Robinson, Lee Grant, Luke Steele, David Forde, Carl Ikeme, Colin Doyle, Tom Heaton... Boy Waterman is also out of contract at PSV - might fancy a crack at the Prem?
