Thoroughly enjoyed a cracking cup final last night and there can be no argument as to which club are the masters of Europe. Barcelona have re-set the standards required and I cant see who will beat them for the next couple of years at all.

3-1 didn't flatter the Catalans at all and Man Utd can have no comeback. Even the referee was magnificent. I thought he let lots of meaty challenges go last night (good ones IMO but one that normally have foreign refs ****ting bricks) and it made for a great spectacle. Instead of free kicks every 20 seconds and 10 or 12 yellow cards and a couple of reds, he refereed with intelligence and grace and made it the great final it was.

So, as well as commiserating with SAF and congratulating Pep Guardiola , I would like to pay the referee the biggest compliment and tell UEFA/FIFA to wake up and smell the coffee. Ask this ref to be the leading light for refereeing going forward.

    Interesting, Cest.
I did not notice the ref at all last night. Says it all I guess.

    I did notice.

He was excellent and let the game flow, which was born out by the fact that there was no added time at the end of the first half. He showed the older generation of referee how it should be done and to be fair, he was helped enormously by both teams, because I didn't see one incident of diving last night.

Probably the only player in the world that you simply can't buy...

No shame for united getting beat by a team like that, too many great players for anyone to handle
have said it to people that although giggs and scholes are still good players a team like united should have younger better midfielders than guys who are mid to late thirties

Yes, excellent referee. Man of the match.
Fantastic display by Barça but not a great "match" but that's just pedantry on my part. Barcelona are so far ahead of the field, you can't expect a "match" when they are playing.
However, would watch them all day every day.

I first saw them in the 1960s and apart from Sunderland have been following them ever since even the had to play second fiddle to Real. El classico has historical roots in the same way as the Tyne-Wear derbies
