I hope he goes to Palace as well, not good enough and Rodgers knows it but he is obviously trying to dump him on us and pay off the remaining debt Liverpool owe for Joe Allen.
Statty profile of Jonjo Shelvey. All copied and pasted, of course. http://www.theswanseaway.co.uk/2013/07/a-profile-of-swans-target-jonjo-shelvey.html
You mean you didn't watch his every minute of every game? How dare you !! Cheers Scott. I really hope we dont get him, he's one scary Dr Evil looking motherfxxxxr
If you can get him for a reasonable price, sign him. He was running games at 16, was then played hopelessly out of position, sold to save our skins, then lost his way. He needs a good manager and enthusiastic, skilful forwards to supply - you have both. And as a lifelong Hammer, I don't think he'll be going to Palace any time soon.
Statistically he is actually quite good and the link above is a good example of how to misuse statistics to aid your agenda. In the article the blogger makes out that being dispossed of possession of the ball just 0.7 times per game is a bad thing, I guarantee that EVERY one of our midfield players has been tackled more times than that per game. He always loses the ball 0.7 times do sue a poor first touch, that is exactly in line with what we expect from a midfielder in our style of play. We can forgive one bad touch, 11 bad touches from the entire team over 90 minutes wouldn't be so noticeable if we are honest with ourselves so he makes the grade there as well. His passing may need some improvement but I laugh how the report makes out he doesn't pass much. In all he had 11 games worth of football if we add the sub appearenace. The guy still managed 476 passes. But wait, Opta say those 476 came in games he started. 9 games... divided by 476 passes? Plug me sideways, this guy puts in 50+ passes a game he starts and in Europe he manages just under that average with a higher accuracy. Truth be told Rodgers ruined this kid, he didn't have a clue how to play him. Jonjo is an attacking midfielder, he occupies the same role that Frank Lampard did when he owned the oppositions half of the pitch in his younger years. Rodgers tried to turn him into a brutish Joe Allen and it didn't work, if we got this guy then there is only one position we would use him and Laudrup knows this, he is back up for Michu and Jonjo was scoring in 50% of his games in the Championship at the age of 16 and 17. Perhaps blaming Rodgers alone was harsh, Liverpool ruined him to be honest, all because "Stevie GBH" must play. Jonjo shares his position if you play him right.
Interesting points ... we need better domestic players. If we can get him for a knock down and the player can keep is attitude straight when not even getting close to the bench then let's see if ML can make a project out of him and make him this season's Routledge.
I believe what annoyed this kid so much (at 21 for most of next season's campaign he is still a work in progress) is that he saw his managers consistently play him out of position to accommodate an aging, slowing, tiring legend who frankly should have been slowly phased out from three seasons ago. If Stevie G was still the marauder and chipping in with 15 goals a season then he would have no complaints, but the fact Liverpool played Gerrard simply because of the name on his back, in the role of supporting Suarez, it annoyed him that reputation overruled ability. For two seasons now most of the British football establishment have recognised that Gerrard is not a game changer and the guy is huffing and puffing by the 60 minute mark, you have this youngster full of energy not being utilised and phased in properly to take on the mantle that the old man is no longer capable of carrying. He is essentially demoralised at Anfield due to biasy against him by the fans and management. At 21 until February next year he can still get back to being an attacking midfielder.
he is not as bad as some on here are painting, He does have skill and he is young enough to get better than he already is. he is far better than most players of his age hence the £5 million price tag. He would be an asset if we can do a deal with rodgers.....Maybe they can give us shelvey plus a couple of million and we can give them Tate... only kidding the last bit.. but this kid is very promising and worth a punt...
Liverpools season turned around when (young) Coutinho took Dr Evil's place. The system didnt change, just the player. That and Lucas getting fit again as DM. Not excited by him, sorry. If he is that promising in a system similar to ours, they wouldnt be so keen to sell. Its not like they are desperate for money.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/jul/02/swansea-city-liverpool-jonjo-shelvey weve agreed a fee of 6 million apparently.
Except Coutinho didn't play in the position that Shelvey was played in, so I can't see why you are saying what you are.
I cannot believe we are going in for this guy! Ok he's played some good games, but really where the hell does he fit in? we have enough mid-fielders already, surely we should be concentrating on the Striker position, so bloody long winded you are Jenkins!...................
Well if it's true then welcome Dr Evil , he'll get my support when he wear the shirt. if it is 6million then thats the club record gone on a player that most on here don't want
