So, I have a question for you: have you ever seen a national newspaper dedicate the headline of a column to a story about a cancelled friendly match? No? Well, you're about to... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...osmos-left-high-dry-Watford-Pozzo-family.html It seems that, because we've stopped signing all those dirty foreigners on loan, The Mail have had to find new ways of continuing their campaign of hate against us. And when they discovered this story, I bet they wet themselves. How sad, petty and boring can you get? I posted a comment expressing these feelings in the most eloquent manner I could manage, but I doubt it'll get published. Such a dire column was hardly worth the effort I put into posting this thread, but if anyone was on the fence as to how they felt about this particular newspaper, I hope this makes your mind up once and for all
b-b-t, point taken, but did you really have any expectations of the DM? It's an extremely consistent rag...consistent dross...
They are the paper version of TalkSport.... don't think anyone considers them a news-worthy source - unless they want a quote to wind up a rival Does seem they are growing a slight agenda against the club though. Does that mean we've made it big? No one cares about small clubs....
Let's be honest here; if (and that is a MASSIVE if, given the Daily Mail's record) the story is true, then New York Cosmos have all the right to be annoyed. It is very unprofessional to cancel a contracted game. Particularly when you are cancelling it to arrange a match against one of your other play-things.
I see your point BBW, but why is this being reported? Surely it happens elsewhere plenty of times for one reason or another. We've had a friendly cancelled ourselves at reasonably short notice this summer, and couldn't find a suitable replacement so had to play ourselves. I can understand the NYC point of view - just don't think it's 'news'
i agree, it's a pathetic article, but i do feel it's wrong of us to cancel at such short notice, they're here after all!
Many things go on behind the scenes that we are not privy to. I can think of a number of reasons why the game was called off, but like me I suspect the Mail does not know the reason.
Hmmm; Adam Poole ‏@APoole_1881 @WatfordTalk NY cosmos coach has said on Talksport they are playing #Watfordfc on Friday
Note the use of the word "clan" in the DM report--as in "Pozzo clan" . Hints at a many things--- they are Italians, they are a clan-- the Mafia are Italians and a clan---- , so the Pozzo's must be?????---a clan sticks together and looks after its own interests---so the Pozzo's project is obviously self serving and to the detriment of English football-----. Suppose we were talking about a takeover by a family of a different national origin, and they used the word "tribe" ? Offensive or what?
Terrible article, but I do agree that it is wrong to leave the New York Cosmos high and dry in this fashion. Hopefully they can play another team or we rearrange the fixture for another time.
At least we gave them some notice - how long did Nice give us? Unfortunate for them and not the most professional thing but then if we've agreed to give them a game at some other point then fair enough.
The thing is, this is not a unique situation; it happens all the time, as we found out with Nice. If NYC had come all the way from the US just to play just us, only to be told that we're cancelling the friendly, then fair enough - but they're on tour over here, playing multiple games against multiple opposition. So the article was nothing more than a blatant and unashamed exercise in driving down our ever-decreasing popularity. The same lazy and misinformed journalism has led to, amongst other things, that ridiculous thread on the Leicester page. I for one bare no ill-will to those Leicester fans, because they are being brainwashed by articles such as this.
