I read somewhere it was £300k plus add-ons, but can't remember where and not sure they are really 'in the know'.

I would say it's probably not too far off the mark though. He was enterting the last year of his contract and was pushing for the move, so unless we there was an auction for him, we couldn't demand too much. I think it's one of those times where they say fair enough, you've been a good servant to the club but understand why you want to go!

IMHO he may not have scored many goals, but he was a very unsung hero and did a lot of work that people did not see/appreciate. Every team that plays football needs to have a player that is willing to to the donkey work and break up the oppositions play. No he did not score many goals, but the fact that he got into positions to score is just as important, as if nothing else it takes defenders away from marking our other more potent players.

One final point, 'not suited to our club...', maybe, arguably yes, but definitely suited to the division we are competing in where A JH type player is invaluable especially in a scrappy match on a cold winters day/evening.

Just from the responses to this thread shows people certainly did see and appreciate what he can do.

I have to agree with Mitch, albeit in a slightly less cynical way! With the likes of Iriney and McGugan signing over the past few weeks, you struggle to see where Hogg fits in. He is renowned for being strong tackling and athletic. But, from what I gather, Iriney is a better tackler, and McGugan is a better athlete.

We will need to bring in a new midfielder now though, what about Sissoko from Udinese? He is Mohamed's younger brother, was on loan at some French club last season.

    DCM: Iriney ( ???? ) * new signing required *
CM: Abdi, McGugan, Battochio and Connor Smith (Murray is just not a CM)

It would seem that Essaid Belkalem who is strongly rumoured to be joining has a bit of a record. In four years he made 65 league appearances, scoring five times, collecting 14 bookings and four red cards.

A yellow every 5 games and a red every 16. Think he might be a part time player with us.

No, he's a central defender according to previous reports.

He's also 'ours' as opposed to a loan, if this is to be believed:

A centre half is a central defender (same thing)

    Any rumours of any midfielders??

    It's and age thing Mitch...

For me in the old formations of 2-3-5 a centre half sat in the centre in front of the back two and was considered more forward looking....

As yorkie pointed out, the term originated from the old 2-3-5 formation - the three man midfield comprising of of right half, left half and centre half - so while there were defensive duties, no it is not the same thing as a central defender.

Yes - BBC seem to suggest it was a 25 yarder as well.
