And what did our clubs do in europe again? Not a lot. City went out to kiev. Ha. Liverpool went out to somone, cant remmeber who. Tottenham got taken to tthe cleaners. Arsenal got dumped out. Our league is more competitive, but its hardly any better. If it was our teams would have taken these two bob clubs to the cleaners. As it goes it was the other way round.
Those figures included Liverpool's debt, which is now largely gone, the Utd PIKs which are now unknown, and Chelsea's "debt", which is a £700 million interest free loan by Abramovich with no restrictions. If you compare the clubs whose debt actually influences them, United and Arsenal's debt is comparable to that held by Barca and Real.
Well yes. City are the exception to the quality of the Prem, as always Braga, EL runners up. Same club that knocked Sevilla out of the CL and got hammered 6-0 by Arsenal. So, Braga beat the 7th placed team in England, 4th placed team in Spain and get dumped on by the 3rd placed team in England. That only supports the argument that England is better than Spain. True, but 2nd place in Spain beating 4th place in England is hardly conclusive is it? Particularly when 3rd place in Spain got beaten by Schalke. By Barca. Best club in the world, remember? Which two bob clubs? Barring Kiev, all of our clubs went out to decent teams. And barring Barca, pretty much every club in England got equal or further than their equivalent in Spain.
I dunno, but given that they got 480 million Euros from Madrid for their training ground, and are still in a few hundred million Euros of debt after Ronaldo and Kaka, I'm guessing the net spend is of the order of 700-800 million Euros. They certainly haven't made any big sales that I'm aware of to balance out those purchases. Although they piss money away on wages like a drunk in a brewery, so the net spend may be lower than that.
Arsenal were beaten by Barca (who we've established are better than anyone in England) Spurs (6th) we're beaten by Real in their first season in the CL.... It appeared that Spurs let the occasion get to them big time. But Real we're still better. We lost in the final to Barca. We aren't talking about results versus the top two of Spain... The top two don't account for the standard of La Liga as a whole. Take Barca and Real out of La Liga and it's pretty much Serie A. Take Barca out of Europe for the last 3 years... and the PL would have 2 more CL winners
Real Madrid have reached 1 Champions League final in 7 years, pretty poor for an "exceptional" team, yet they walk all over everyone in La Liga bar Barcelona.
We got to the CL final spending pittance stretty. We dumped Chelsea out aswell, had we not met then I suspect chelsea would of gone further. All english clubs made the knock out stages. Did the spanish ones? I know of 3 but who were the 4th?
Only big sale I can think of top of hat is robinho. But Reals kit deal entitles them to a cut of profits of shirt sales. Im pretty sure they have made a fair bit of the back of ronnie's name and possibly kaka aswell as a few others.
Pittance? Do not exagerate. Rio 30 mil. Rooney 27 give or take. Nani 18 Ando 18 Berba 30 Valencia 17 Carrick 18 Ok since about 08 we have certainly been stingy in comaprisson to a lot of clubs, however, our squad didnt cost two bob did it?
Half of spurs team have cl experience. So not exactly like had no clue what they were going up against was it?
Probably, but I'm guessing that money all went towards wages. IIRC Real sell 1.5 million shirts a year max. If we assume a generous mark up of £40 per shirt (£50 price less £10 for manufacture and distribution), that's £60 million a year. If Real make 50% of that, then they get £30 million. But Ronaldo's wages are around £18 million a season, and Kaka around £10 million. So even if they are making the maximum possible on shirts, that only barely covers the wages of two players.
