Watching Citeh v Bayern. Amazing that even at this top level, Citeh's coach can't see that 4-4-2 against 4-5-1 results in the two centre midfield players chasing shadows against the opposition's 3 central midfield players. If he doesn't change formation at half time he needs stringing up!!
beeb website has just posted 1st half stats Possession 25/75 Shots / Shots on Target 2/1 - 9/2 Talk about Bayern being dominant....
Its a gamble based on the quality of the opposition. If you have better players formation is less important. I'll admit in this case 4 v 5 seems a bit risky....
Tramore you've got the shots mixed up. Total dominance and a gulf in class. City can change tactics all they wan't but they will still not get close to Bayern. A change is much needed though, it can at least give them some pride back.
No team should be as rigid as 442 or 451 nowadays at professional level. You need to have players between the lines, be they attack-minded midfielders or deep-lying forwards. Any formation can be effective against any other if applied the right way. Our match versus West Ham at home last season was the ultimate example of picking the wrong players for the wrong rigid formation. They turn up with three in the middle looking like nightclub bouncers on Harlsden high street (Nolan, Diame, Noble) and we play a four of Park, Granero, Faurlin and SWP.
4-4-2 is obsolete Col, at least at the very top level, you can't get away with it anymore. It can still work in the lower leagues, Championship included, but here we also see that a 5 man midfield comes out on top on most occasions.
City don't have better players though. They need to match up in the middle to stop Bayern having so much of the ball. Admittedly, Man City playing 4-4-2 v Barnsley playing 4-5-1 you would expect City to win, but even then they'd be out-numbered at times!
It's one way traffic alright. Men against boys. Cols spot on with the point about city's midfield being completely dominated. Bayern are also far hungrier and chasing EVERY ball like their very existence depended on it, Will still bet that City will somehow manage to get something out of it.
Spot on.........two forwards up front is a thing of the past at the top level imo. One main striker with one lying deeper (4-4-1-1) is the nearest to 4-4-2 you should get.
Bloody Hell Norway, you mean to say that we can't trust the BBC anymore or believe anything they tell us......what is the world coming too???????
Sorry mate he doesn't play up front. They play it different tonight than they did at the weekend when they had Mandzukic up front. Guardiola normally prefers the 4-1-4-1 with Bayern. Tonight it is a 4-6-0 (4-1-2-3-0), spesifically to dominate whatever City have to come with. This is a formation he will use regularly away from home against tough opposition. I know, I watch every game they play.
that is what Guardiola is famous for he tells his players that they must get the ball back within 10 seconds
Hart beaten at near post by Robben's right foot!.. spending too much time on hair products.. Green for England and they need to buy Cesar..
As I said above, Bayern will go on to win comfortably and Citeh have no chance................... I'll get me coat
Fair play mate........even I can get it wrong (not often!!). 0-3 now!! City still playing 2 strikers up top. Pellicanini has made a change, but just swapped a striker for another one!! Incredibly naive from a supposedly experienced manager. Mind you he may as well play 3 strikers now for all the good it will do. This could finish 0-6!!
