I would not be surprised one bit if Mike was retaining cheap players like Willo and Shola 'just in case' we went down.

Not a favourite of mine but Colo and Mbiwa both looked poor.
Big mistake by club getting rid of Danny Simpson and Perchy.
I haven't seen anything from either Debuchy or Santon to fill me with confidence.

Maybe Simmo and Perchy could only speak English and didn't fit in.

Willo hasn't had the best of luck while he's been with us and come in for a lot of stick which isn't going to do his confidence any good.

I remember in the game against Man City in October 2010 when Ben Arfa got his leg broken by that dirty bastard deJong, Willo came chasing back and won the ball cleanly with a sliding tackle on Tevez when Tevez was almost certain to score, and he got red carded for it. What a joke that was.

DeJong stayed on the pitch after breaking HBA's leg and Willo got a red for a fair tackle.

Of course that's the kind of thing you can expect from that prick Martin Atkinson.

Another mistake today which lead to their goal due to inept defending with the orginal challenge then being out of position.
Useless defender against some ordinary players today up front

Let's face it, all 3 cb options aren't quite as good as we need them to be. Taylor is rash and prone to getting turned and silly stuff happens on the recovery. Willo's big place is height, but he's not quite as strong as he should be being such a big lad and he too gets caught out of position (the sign of a truly great defender is positioning and reading the game), MYM is the best footballer of the three but he's not good enough in the air I feel to partner Colo who himself isn't fantastic. Colo is a great last ditch tackler and blocker and he really needs a tall header and reader of the game next to him, so of all three I still feel Willo makes the best pairing. On his own Willo is barely EPL quality though. Imagine if we had someone like Samba next to Colo. Would we be shipping more than .5 goals a game? I think not.

Also the fullback haven't been great. But in fairness to Debuchy, with Gouf ahead of him he looked a lot better. Which really throws up quetions about Hatem playing on the wing because he seems such a liability.

not much to moan about today ??

I can't recall another mistake by Willo this season
he made no mistakes in the defeat at Everton, no mistakes in the defeat by Hull, and no mistakes in the defeat by city

Willo has a decent game but makes one mistake. Willo out!

Collo, MyM, Santon, Debuchy have terrible games making several mistakes. Pardew out!!

Two wrongs don't make a right
Have I slatted the other clowns of late ?? Yes.
One mistake that leads to a goal is a bloody big deal.
Williamson is championship at best as Are the other waste of money buys.
You can get away with mistakes down in their level down the pop league

The only difference about willo is at least he gives his all.

My beef is about the club and pardew by not replacing deadwood and not building on a weak squad.

Willo isn't a premiership defender but whilst wearing the top he gets my support

I thought yesterday's game summed up everything about Mike Williamson. Performed very well for majority of game, especially in the air, but was totally asleep when he failed to make any sort of challenge when it was easy to and within seconds the ball was in the back of the net.
Problem is it does happen on a regular basis and therefore not a first choice CH for me.

Willo even with his mistake put our other defenders performances this season to shame with his display yesterday. Did really well. I still think we can do better but I hope they have his commitment, and ability to communicate. Santon is still a massive worry. He still had to be bollocked into position by Colo, Willo, Sissoko on several occasions. The most worrying one being when Willo had to grab hold of him on a dead ball and put him in position! <laugh> WTF

At least it shows that Willo cares.

Of course Santon shouldn't have needed to be put into position which is a bit worrying.

If anyone who questions Willo caring and commitment, they need their head tested. He has had some rocky times, but I can't remember a single one where he hasn't left it all on the pitch.

I think the more mature fans understand and appreciate Willo more than the younger ones do.

A team is about getting the correct blend of characters, ability and attitude. I love Williamsons character and attitude even though his ability is dodgy at times. I don't think anyone takes his positives for granted, the only question is whether they outweigh his negatives. For me he is an asset to call upon so long as he isn't regularly relied upon - I think we missed Best last season and Perch at times this season already, they are in the same bracket as players to me.

Lot to be said for solid squad players. Look at SAF. He wrung the likes of P Neville, J O'Shea, W Brown, D May, L Sharpe, N Butt etc etc before he shifted them. Obviously its all relative but people like Perch, Willo, Best, Loverkrands, Raylor are useful to have. They know the league, enjoy the physicality of it and give you steady performance levels

Willo had one decent game and his mistake led to their goal. I'm not doubting his character , I doubt his ability.

The fact that we are even having this debate just shows how much has changed since the start of the season. If you had asked the question should Willo start before the Man City match you'd have been laughed out of town.

So who thinks Willo should start against Liverpool? Maybe a poll is needed on this.
