I think he would be a great signing for us, inject some life into the team, and replace clichy who has been largely ineffective this season. Thoughts? How much would he cost?

Well considering the ridiculous prices other Englishmen are going for, I dare say we'd have to stump up around £15 mill for the guy and possibly give them Vela on loan or something. But yes, he is the kindof signing I am looking for. Somebody who is reliable, not too fancy and willing to work hard.

I would love us to sign him, but he would be stupidly over priced.

Are there any other good left backs out there who cost less than 15 million? If not then we may be stuck with Gibbs.

do you know what, i don't think Gibbs'd make a good RB, and anyway, I don't think Sagna needs replacing :) <whistle>

He's good, but I'm not sure he's what we'd need. He's not that good at crossing, attacks just as much as Clichy, so why would he be diffrent from Clichy. If Clichy leaves, then fine, but I don't think we should push him out the door for Baines.

Firstly, Baines is so much better than Clichy, so therefore would be different. If you dont think he can cross watch this from 0:50 onwards: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWBw2ZYehW8

Although he attacks as much as Gael he attacks with much more precision and intelligence. Clichy has had his chance, and has mainly disappointed us. I say he should leave to Italy or Spain and we get a replacement in, be it Baines, Enrique, or someone else, and keep an eye on Gibbs's progression.

Would be nice to have a left back with at least some offensive ability.

Baines shone in an otherwise pedestrian England performance the other day, he seems a lot more rounded and accomplished than Clichy ever was. If we can get him i think its a step in the right direction but im sorry to say i cant see it.

Why would Baines want to go to your club?

And don't tell me "to play in the CL" because he can go to a CL club that actually wins things.

I think Baines is a great player, and that's why he'll end up at United or Chelsea. Or City, if they win the league next season.

I'd love us to stump up for Baines but can't see us forking out the readies. I can easily see Citeh stepping in and buying another talented player they don't need.

Cit£h need to increase their homegrown quota for the following season, so I will hazard a guess at a bit for LB in the region of £23m either this window or the Jan one.

    You heard it hear first!

he's good. get him if at all possible. he'll stabilise the defense - clichy has been the weak link for some time.
with gibbs pulling out of the England squad AGAIN with an ankle injury, he's just not resiliant enough to risk the position on. he'll be great as competition when he's fit, but he's far too inconsistent.

i'm really starting to rate baines. he played every minute of the PL last season, unspectacular, but gets assists and just seems...solid
