It was a definite leg breaker. As the Ref took no action he'll probably get a ban this week when it's reviewed.
I thought he genuinely attempted to get the ball and the studs raised was a leg-breaker, he would have been lucky to get away with a booking from most premiership refs (and if it was Gardner, or Cattermole?). Well ...Larsson doesn't have such a bad reputation does he? Having said that, why don't the press focus on a nailed on penalty?
Disagree about Larsson he went in to do the lad, just watched it back a few times on SSN and my first thought was correct, terrible tackle.. Agree about the penalty shout, that tackle from behind any where else on the pitch would be a foul all day.
I remember it now, to be honest from where i was, it looked like he won the ball and I was wondering why the ref blew
The only saving grace is he was going where the ball was. Apart from that look at his face, how high his foot is. Cant believe he stayed on but I'm sure the FA will correct that this week. Terrible challenge.
Gets worse every time I watch it... Being completely impartial I honestly think it was actually worse than Dossena's. Yes Seb was going for the ball but he got the man, with studs up. Look how far he pushes Garcia's foot along the ground in that gif - if his foot was planted... doesn't bare thinking about, that.
I thought that if the ref saw the incident they can't give retrospective punishment. He must have seen it if he gave a foul. I might be wrong because they have just changed the rule to if the ref only sees part of the incident they can award punishment, I don't know when it starts though.
I don't think he is going for the ball at all. If he had been going for the ball his foot wouldn't have been so high. He knew he was going to be second and went for the player.
The tackle wasn't clever tbh and he is lucky to have not been even yellow carded, let alone red. That said, City can have absolutely no complaints as they were limited to mainly speculative 20 yard shots for all their possession 2nd half. We were rock like oin defence and midfield today against a team that had scored 12 in 2 games previous to this one. We deserved to win absolutely.
I agree it's a shocking tackle and I fully expect the retrospective action to be taken. The ref did not see the contact clearly due to Larsson's body blocking his view, otherwise it would have been a straight red card. At last we had some luck with refereeing decisions. Apart from that Larsson had a great game today but he probably won't be in the team for a while.
You are probably right, I've just edited my post because I read somewhere this week that they have changed the rule to read 'If a referee sees part of the incident' but I'm not sure when the change starts from.
