When will we start to believe that we have a real chance of taking a CL spot? I know it's natural to think "this is saints, it cant go that well" but we are 1/4 way through and 3rd. Can we win every game? Probably not. Can we turn those difficult fixtures that we ought to lose into draws? Yes. Can we match any team in the league? Yes. If we are 3rd half way through the season im sure people will still say "i hope we can finish top 8" or whatever. We are muscling our way into a strong position in the league and it is ours to lose.

After three games' time - then given the right results I might start to believe we are capable of going the whole way. Yes we're in with a chance and right now I certainly think top six is entirely possible.

Lallana is something else this season. Last season he wasn't great, but he's bulked up so much now and he has developed some serious pace now. Scary for defenders to face him I reckon. Lallana, the master of the Cruyff turn and someone we should be very proud to represent us and our Academy.

I see Mauricio said this week has been one of the best of his career, but he said that on a personal level it was ruined by a cold that meant he got no sleep.

I know who Cruyff was but still don't know what a Cruyff turn is!

I see he made team of the week- deservedly. Seems every week one of our players is singled out for praise! Good times.

As I understand it, it's when you flick the ball behind your standing leg and spin on that leg so your body shields the ball. You can do it anything up to 360 degrees. Adam seems to do it more and more, and it's practically impossible to defend against without fouling.

I have the flu at the moment and am really, really poorly. I have to stay in bed all day and the very lovely Mrs Godders:emoticon-0115-inlov has to bring me hot drinks and medicine and fluff up my pillows.

No because it was invented by Johan Cryuff.

Lallana is so good at it, turns defenders inside out. He's playing twice as well as he was last season; MP's style really makes good use of our captain.

The funny thing is that Liverpool and us have precisely the same likelihood of winning the league, so not sure why he'd laugh.
Saying that, Liverpool are going to benefit from our next two games.

As a schools footballer, I was doing the occasional Cruyff Turn before I saw him do it on TV. Then there was this move and the rest is history:

As you can see, Cruyff is actually doing his new move quite awkwardly. It's obviously a newish thing even for him, at this time. Adam Lallana does it like someone else might breathe in and out. He does them so often and it is so second nature to him that they barely register as a named move. Sit through the 90 minutes [link posted on this thread] or watch some highlights, and count how many times he does it. He's refined it so much one could almost call it the Lallana Turn.

Well it's not just "This is Saints". It's not that unusual for a mid-table side to be up among the top 6 at this stage and then slip back later in the season.

After 11 games last season West Brom were 5th - level on points with Everton in 4th - and West Ham were 6th. West Brom slipped back to 8th and West Ham to 10th.

In 2010/11 Newcastle were 5th and Bolton were 6th at this stage. Newcastle finished 12th and Bolton 14th.

And the classic... in 08/09 Hull were 6th after 11 games and finished 17th.

However, if we can maintain our current form through the tough run of games we have coming up over the congested Christmas and New Year period (and perhaps add to the squad in January) then I'd say we're real contenders. That's going to be a tough ask though.

At this point I think if we match Newcastle who were 3rd after 11 games two years ago and only slipped back to 5th then we'll have done very VERY well.

I read it on a number of occasions but I haven't a clue what it all means, I have only just graduated from an abacus via a ViC 20 and a Spectrum, anything more complicated is way beyond me. <wah>
