Baresi, yes... good job he retired before the last decade or he would be in it aswell... surely for 06 onwards is quite a lot of the decade is it not, so why should we not take it into account?

Mate how old are you? Are you claiming Cannavaro is better than Ferdinand because he has won the World Cup and was a runner up in EURO 2000? Is it Ferdinand's fault he has been part of a poor England team that hasn't managed to do a thing? Nesta has always upstaged Cannavaro and it is not coincedence he hasn't ever won the Serie A trophy (he won them in 2005 and 06 but they were stripped because of cheating) he has never won the European Cup either. He flopped at Inter Milan, was good for a couple of years at Juventus and flopped at Real Madrid. Ferdinand has been consistently great now for well over 10 years. Has been at the top for 8. Cannavaro never had that sustained success in his career. The only time the World really took notice was when he had a great World Cup.

nesta was great but he never upstaged cannavaroits just simply not true, he carried an average italy team in 2000 and 2006 with defensive masterclass after defensive masterclass, your point that ferdinand was part of a poor enghland team canbe countered bycannavaro not being part of a team as dominant as man u over the last decade in club football he was injured all the time at inter and over the hill when he went to real madrid, his performance in germany 06 was one of the best by a defender in the history of tournament football, rio has never done anything at that level, i watch english football but you clearly dont watch italian footballaqs to say he was eclipsed by nesta is simply not true

What are we arguing about now? If we are still talking about the last decade, you've now admitted he was injured all the time between 2002-04 and over the hill after 2006. I don't understand how that makes him better than rio over the last 10 years?

And yeah, has been fun :p

Few would argue against the fact that the Champions League is a much better level than the World Cup as is the Premier League compared to Serie A. Ferdinand has been consistant at the highest level for much longer than Cannavaro. Ferdinand has undoubtedly been the best defender in England for the past 10 years. The same cannot be said about Cannavaro in Italy.

Champions League has definitely become the pinnacle now. I don't really like that tbh but football is probably as much business as passion now.

I'll try to deny it because it hasn't been the case. Whether he likes it or not, Terry's most iconic moment in the last decade was the slip in the CL final. Painfully limited defender who couldn't play anywhere apart from Northern Europe.

If he's so limited then why does he make the UEFA team of the year nearly every year?

Terry is on course to be the world's most underrated footballer ever because of some football fans who constantly underestimate his influence and ability.

can't see it happening and tbh wouldn't want it, Rio is a key defender or though in a year or two may be surplus to requirements.

Carvalho was a far better defender than Terry was.

The only reason people rate Terry above Ferdinand as a defender is because of his 'passion' and his 'heart'. That's why he is captain because he shouts a lot and dives into tackles with his head. Anybody who knows about football will know Ferdinand is the better defender and always has been. Even now to me Terry looks as if he has declined more than Ferdinand has. The only thing Ferdinand has against him is his back injuries. When fit Rio is the much better defender.

Ferdinands most memerable moment was when he failed a drug test, or failed to "Turn up in time" in 2004.

and at the post above about carvalho being better than terry, thats so not true.

im portuguese so im I'd be more inclined to be biast to Carvalho.

but Terry is better in everyway. Carvalho is way to reckless and in my choice would also never get into the portuguese team above bruno alves and pepe.
