Not going to spend long on this today. A point away is ok but I feel we are a better side than Palace and should be capable of beating them. We didn't create many chances at all and Palace only had chances we gave them. No idea why Chamakh was still on the pitch for his assault on Hoolahan, but if he had gone I really think we would have won. Leroy Fer capped off what was a poor performance with a second yellow from a brainless challenge but how he got the first yellow for what was at worst a little bit of pushing in the area that occurs dozens of times a match on every set-piece is beyond me. The referee gave them soft fouls all game (again) and Chamakh on a booking pushed his luck all game and never got the second yellow.

Ruddy never really had a save to make except the penalty. He didn't really look comfortable in the conditions or set-pieces today so I'll give him 5.
I had no idea why Whittaker was playing instead of Martin before the game kicked off and I am even more bemused now with hindsight. Martin was excellent vs Manure and Whittaker was pretty anonymous today. Ok defensively, but actually more of a hindrance than a help when we tried to build attacks. 5.
Turner was decent until he went off injured. He was comfortable against a mediocre Palace side as he has been good all season. Hope he is not injured long. 7.
Bassong has at least stopped making errors lately and looked comfortable again today. One or two shaky moments with hashed clearances but he is looking closer to his best. 6.
Olsson was not much better than Whittaker today, I really don't think he is the right player to be playing behind Redmond. He never gets the ball in attacking areas because of Redmond's insatiable greed for the ball and whilst he is competent defending it is a waste of him when I would say Garrido offers more when he has no protection and doesn't get the ball and would give us an option on set-pieces. 5.
Snodgrass doesn't deserve the criticism he gets IMO, except today he did. Offered very little in attack and wayward set-piece delivery. Did at least work hard defensively which is good - because Whittaker doesn't seem comfortable with no cover. 5.
Fer wasn't so much anonymous today as infamous. He was completely outshone in an attacking sense by Bradley Johnson (BJ FFS!) and got sent off rather stupidly. I actually felt the penalty/first yellow was a ridiculous decision but he looked lost today and considering Johnson isn't a playmaker and never will be you cannot afford to have that from a central midfielder. Dragged down the team with his inept performance today. 3.
Johnson was our best player today. Of course he has been ridiculed for his woeful passing this season but these last few games he has actually retained the ball very well. He has managed to do this whilst still keeping the solid defensive dimension to his game in tact so at least we have a CM we can count on. Oh, and not only did he connect well with a strike outside the box for the first time since God only knows but he scored a superb goal! 8.
Redmond was really poor again. Normally he at least beats his man before giving the ball away but today Mariappa had him in his pocket. 4.
Hoolahan never really got the ball enough today to make an impact and looked like our only hope of creating anything against a packed Palace defence. I can see why he was taken off because today wasn't the right game for him and neither will be Goodison next. Let down by Fer and the wingers tbh so he gets a 6.
Hooper must have been a lonely boy today. He was feeding off scraps again although on the rare occasions he did get the ball he managed to produce an assist. It is vital when we play this poorly with one up-front that we have a guy who can hold up the ball and work hard and Hooper does this admirably. 6 and maybe could have been more had his teammates played better.

    Subs:
Ryan Bennett was impeccable when he came on. Unlucky to be dropped anyway but if Turner is fit maybe he could be partnered by Bennett because both seem to be in good form. 7.
Elmander didn't really have much impact because he came on as we went down to 10 men so it is unfair to give him a rating really. N/A
Martin came on as an ad-hoc central midfielder and to be fair probably did more than Fer did all game. N/A

So it isn't looking good for Everton next, is it? I really hope Howson is back or Rusty will end up as a central midfielder again which means we have to play Whittaker. I don't normally blame Hughton because usually the players make that impossible but today he showed Palace far too much respect. Sometimes we just need men in the box but today we played for a draw and got one when we could use points now considering our run in!

Considering a rejuvenated Palace are fighting for their lives under a new manager I am kind of happy with a point away from home. Annoying that Chamakh didn't get his comeuppance for assaulting Wes but this doesn't hide the fact that we weren't good enough to win. At least we don't have to worry about whether or not to play Fer next game.

When we had lots of posession in the first half Johnson either picked the wrong pass, or was poorly weighted, or slightly behind the player I could go on, ok or over hit it and gave it away time and time again. He is terrible this is one area that we really need to improve upon in January or certainly for the next season

I think you are confusing Fer and Johnson maybe?

Everybody knows your opinion on this, why post it everywhere? It has nothing to do with OP.

Well ok, you must be right he was wonderful, I thought his passing slowed down play, never played the forward pass to allow the player to run onto the ball without having to break stride, there were beautiful sideways passes but then never provided a return option that allowed the team to move forward.

Couldn't get a stream so followed on BBC text commentary. Snodgrass was not mentioned once and Whittaker just twice in the whole match, as was Wes. Russ was mentioned more than those three. As players will only be mentioned for positive or negative impact it means they were totally anonymous to the reporter evaluating the match

It is so obviously all CH's fault, arranging that quagmire of a pitch, ordering Fer to get himself sent off, making sure all his available midfielders were injudea and telling Mike Rean not to send off any Palace player for violent conduct, I mean, what a useless manager eh?

Indeed Dave why did all the midfielders get sent to judea? Stupid thing to do.

AND Mike Rean don't get me started on that bastard! Mike Dean is also a right ****er.

He's the unluckiest manager in the world. Every week. To be fair, not the worst point in the world, but these were some big games for us and we need a lot more than we've come away with. I'm sick of waiting for a slice of luck. Go and make your own you old stoat! How anyone can think Hughton should be here long term is beyond me...it's just a matter of when because as nice and as decent as he is, he isn't up to it, and this negativity that has seeped into everything, that is down to him.
