Might be James Harper who has been training with us, or possibly a player they have "up their sleeve". Would have thought we might need to offload a few young players on loan - Nick Awford and Ashley Harris possibly ?
Because we are suffering from a lack of good, calm experience in defence. We don't need to bring in any more non-league players just at the moment, we have Whatmough and Dan Butler (although he's out injured) both waiting in the wings. Besides if it is Chorley it might just be on loan(?) until Danny East is back. As for strikers........ we've got Agyemang, Connolly, Bird, Craddock and have added Jervis and Taylor. Barker has already said we have to shift some of the players out - can't see him wanting to bring any more in.
Ben Chorley is a 6'3" tall centre half, and has been out injured with a double hernia, and thigh and calf problems for the last 9 months. Now apparently fit again, so perhaps Stevenage want him to get first team football elsewhere on loan, to get him match fit. We have Sonny Bradley & Joe Devera playing well together at present, and Bondz N'Gala and now Adam Webster in reserve. I can't see Chorley being useful to us, unless RB is contemplating letting one of our existing central defenders leave.
Chorley is set to sign today, yes he has been out with injury, but thats not unusual for a player of his age coming back from a long term op recovery, his size and stature will do us well........if we can keep him fit. It would not surprise me if after a few games he is not made captain. BP
What, Johnny Ertl lose the captaincy ? Nicky Shorey would be a good shout for that job - impressed me Saturday with his "bossing" of other players, looks like a born leader to me.
I read somewhere earlier that Barker said Ben Chorley will bring some much needed "controlled aggression" into the team - he isn't available for the next match, due to serving a 3 match ban for "violent conduct"
I feel for Johnny Ertl actually. Last season he was voted player of the season, first match he's given a straight red - we were playing really well until that moment, then the whole team fell to pieces, and since then he's struggled for form and seems to be shot of confidence........ and so have the rest of the squad. Can't help wondering what on earth was going on under Guy.
I know what you mean, 3rd eye. It would probably be best all round if Ertl went out on loan, all be it just for a month, get a few games in, and come back refreshed. With our new signings, I really can't see him getting a game, little alone being on the bench - Ferry/Racon/Fogden/Wallace/Shorey/Padovani must all be ahead of him in the pecking order. Shame, but that's life as they say.
According to Sky Sports, Nottingham Forest and Charlton Athletic are chasing young Portsmouth defender Sonny Bradley. Probably reason why we have signed Ben Chorley, as a replacement. If rumour true, I do hope we receive a decent fee for him, as he appears to be improving every game for us.
FFS! hands OFF! Nottingham Forest and Charlton Athletic. Hopefully he'll stick around while longer. I can't wait till the end of the transfer window now. We mustn't lose Jed or Sonny ..
May I ask how we have the money to bring in so many players? No-one is leaving the club (or so it seems) so how do we have all this cash for new players? I know we're not paying tranfer fees but wages aren't cheap!
I can see a few of our "fringe players" and Development Squad kids going out on loan soon, to reduce our total wageroll. I believe that with our average attendances being much higher than previously planned for, we have a bit of spare cash to "play with" when it comes to wages. We are still operating well within our means which is the most important thing. All we need are a few wins, and hopefully they will come soon
What do we think about the possibility of signing a few Scummers on loan ?. In our current postion and circumstances even I would welcome two or three of the stripey lot down the road if it meant climbing up the league before its too late. Thoughts fellow blues, Scummers or no Scummers ?(provided they can play of course and are just not content to do a bit of pony fiddling in Denmead)
Well to be fair SB3, the former scummer known as David Connolly, is still doing very well for us - so more like him (albeit a bit younger maybe) and I wouldn't complain
