One of the most blatant lies/mistruths/misquotes EVER published in this rag.

[h=1]Martin O'Neill begs SFA to play Scotland and Republic of Ireland Euro 2016 qualifier at Celtic Park [/h]THOUSANDS of Tartan Army fans reckon playing the Euro 2016 tie at the home of the Hoops would give an unfair advantage to the Irish because O'Neill is a former Parkhead boss.

MARTIN O’Neill last night begged the SFA to play Scotland’s Euro 2016 qualifier with the Republic of Ireland at Celtic Park.

With Hampden out of commission until next year, the SFA’s preference is to hold the November 14 qualifier at Parkhead as it is the biggest stadium in the country. A 60,000 sell-out would generate around £400,000 more than holding the game at Ibrox and a decision will be made by July. But thousands of Tartan Army footsoldiers feel playing the tie at the home of the Hoops would give an advantage to the Irish because manager O’Neill is a former Celtic boss.

When asked by Record Sport where he wants the game played, O’Neill said: “Would I have a preference between Ibrox or Celtic Park? I’m sure you can tell my answer by the expression on my face rather than me putting it into words. “Do the Scotland fans really want it moved from Celtic Park? I don’t know why they would want to shift it. “Also I don’t see having 10,000 extra Scotland fans inside the stadium as being an advantage to us. Listen, I’m surprised people are thinking along those lines. “I’m sure the SFA would also want the extra money, surely to heavens.”

Other members of the Irish set-up also have Parkhead connections as Anthony Stokes who plays for Celtic while Aiden McGeady, Robbie Keane and assistant boss Roy Keane are former Hoops stars. But O’Neill insists a tie at Celtic Park wouldn’t give Ireland an advantage because Scotland boss Gordon Strachan is another former Celtic gaffer and his squad includes the likes of Scott Brown, Charlie Mulgrew, James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths. He said: “Gordon has also been Celtic manager. And I’m sure there will be a two or three Celtic players in the Scotland squad for that game.”

Proper down on his knees style begging right there. O'Neill should be embarrassed.

Do football people ever work during the day? It's always 'last night.'

I think if they actually worked during the day then our game might not be in the ****e state it is. Long winter nights must disguise how crap some of players are, but at least it explains how Sebo got his contract.

That's true but to be fair he was indulging in utter pish when he said:

"But thousands of Tartan Army footsoldiers feel playing the tie at the home of the Hoops would give an advantage to the Irish because manager O’Neill is a former Celtic boss".

I doubt Guidi took a straw poll of the Tartan Army so where he gets the idea that Celtic Park would be home field advantage for the Irish I don't know, well actually I do, he made it up. It's typical Record journalism.

why? celtic park is the biggest football stadium in Scotland. it should be a no brainer. instead people are trying to make an issue of it.

guidi i think has championed the cause of playing the game at CP on clyde and generally shouts down the morons who come on and say it should be elsewhere, by elsewhere they generally mean ibrox. I do not know for sure but would be pretty confident that o'neills record at ibrox is pretty good. i also think keane has a 100% win record there <whistle>

ok but why? if this was england v ireland and wembley was out of action, would any **** give a **** if the game was played at old trafford? no ****er would give a ****. if scotland were playing northern ireland at ibrox and *insert name of a hun who played / managed rangers* managed NI would you give a **** that they had scheduled the game for ibrox?

** i do realise there would be several doss ****s complaining about this**

Play at Celtic Park = Morons claiming that MON has an advantage and want it switched to Ibrox (probably for the cash injection the SFA would give Rangers for the use of the stadium)

Play at Ibrox = Morons whining about the Tri-colour being flown at Ibrox (personally i would love the the game to be played at Ibrox just because this will piss them off more)

Win Win for Celtic Fans then!
