If we ended their title hopes and won nothing while they won the FA cup i'd be a bit depressed. If we didn't end their title hopes while they didn't win it anyway while they won the FA cup and we won the Europa i'd be happy Obviously i want to end their title hopes and win the Europa and for them not to win the FA.
Looking forward to this one, I regretted not going to some of the bigger European games last season. Regardless of what others say about the competition, I think it's great and this definitely counts as a big game. We're pretty much a write off under Sherwood but that'll end with the season so hopefully, in the meantime, he can turn around his terrible cup record and give us some cause for excitement.
We've all seen Panenka Penalties, but Benfica's Gaitin scored a Panenka free-kick in this years EL. please log in to view this image
Anyone see any odds on this? From what I gather, Benfica should be strong favorites. The conventional thing would be to try to play conservatively and keep them from getting an away goal, but doing that would be insane, both because it wouldn't work and because the fans would hate it. So how's about the same lineup we used the second game against Dnipro, and tell them to pretend they need to score three goals to go through?
Post of the day. In full agreement here, always loved the European nights, regardless if it was CWC, Uefa Cup or the European cup. It's a feckin trophy, go for it, sod the league this year and the 'top 4' bullshit that seems to hold more prestige than a physical cup. I'm sick of all these players that use the hidden excuse for more money by wanting to 'play in the CL', well **** off to Celtic, Young boys, Rosenborg etc. They're in it each year if you really want CL football.
"I'm sick of all these players that use the hidden excuse for more money by wanting to 'play in the CL', well f**k off to Celtic, Young boys, Rosenborg etc. They're in it each year if you really want CL football." The Spartans gave us the term "laconic" . Bald Archie has given us a new term : Vertonic.
With you completely baldArchie. I'm going on Thursday and really hope we turn in a performance. It's about time! We need something to take back to Portugal with as I can't see us going over there and not conceding. We should put out our strongest 11 and then the same for Sunday. It's 3 days in between matches, they should be fine.
Last chance for Rob Soldado (with apologies to Johnnie Douglas and the BlueGrass Boys: Last Train to San Fernando (1957!!)) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wg8DhjQOtzM Last chance for Rob Soldado, last chance for Rob Soldado! If you miss this one, you may not get another one Di-bee-di-bee-dum-bum for Rob Soldado. Last night I met Manni Adebayor He said, tomorrow Spurs must get two or more - If Robbie scores tonight Then we can beat Benfica, right? We can cheer for Spain and weâll win again With the last chance for Rob Soldado. Last chance for Rob Soldado, last chance for Rob Soldado! If you miss this one, you may not get another one Di-bee-di-bee-dum-bum for Rob Soldado. Last chance (for Rob Soldado) Last chance (for Rob Soldado) Last chance (for Rob Soldado) Last chance (for Rob Soldado)â¦.. ps Thank heavens I donât need to come up with a prediction to go with the song! Cheers, all!
Will be gutted if we don't field our strongest team tomorrow night. Echoing what others have said, **** top 4 now, a trophy is the only thing that'd actually bring some happiness back to the fans after some dreadful displays and performances this season. We ideally need a two goal margin from the home match, Benfica will definitely score at their gaff and so we need to go out there with some sort of insurance.
I'd agree for almost any team apart from Spurs. Typically Spurs carrying a lead just leads to nerves and a **** performance (eg, Inter). Sometimes i think we're better going into the 2nd leg behind, but i'm not saying i want that of course
The NLD is normally such an important game in the season due to its tradition, but we've been so **** this year and taken so many knocks, that a defeat isn't going to have the same affect as it normally would, IMO. There's nothing to play for in the league now, and although I'm getting a bit fed up of the Europa feeling more like an inconvenience rather than a competition to be excited about, it's all we have left so we might as well go for it and hope for the best. Although it's gutting, it's quite a change to be out of the top 4 race at this stage of the season, rather than the heartache right at the end. It might also help to put the wheels in motion behind the scenes so we can sort ourselves out sooner, rather than later. Knowing us, we'll lose to Benfica and ruin our chances of a trophy, but go and beat Arsenal despite the fact it'll be too little too late!
I have never understood why we would try all season to get a place in the top 4 or 5 and then say it's too much all these cup games and play under strength sides. We should be trying our best in all competitions otherwise do not enter in the first place. Managers need to play our best possible team on each occasion if the poor lambs are tired you need to question their commitment and their fitness levels.
