Cabaye on the move?

Incredible rumours coming out of Paris yesterday. It has not even been two months since Yohan Cabaye made the move from Newcastle to Paris Saint-Germain, but incredibly already there is talk that he could be set to leave the club.

PSG want Roma's Miralem Pjanic this summer, Cabaye could be used as bait to lure the Bosnian midfielder to the French capital.

With rumours that PSG also want Juventus' French superstar, Paul Pogba, this summer is set to be a busy time in the PSG midfield. Add Pogba and Pjanic to a squad that has Blaise Matuidi, Thiago Motta, Marco Verratti and Adrien Rabiot and you have seven players fighting for three places, even the best squad rotation plans would struggle to fit all seven together. Something would have to give.

Since his move in January, Cabaye has only started in one of the six league games he has been part of. His start on Wednesday night against Leverkusen was more to rest the starting midfield trio than because of Cabaye's form. Going into the World Cup this summer his playing time is going to be crucial for France's chances of progressing. At his best there are few better than Cabaye, it just so happens that a few of them play for PSG.

Pjanic's situation is just as uncertain at Roma. His contract is up in the summer of 2015 and he is yet to sign a new extension. Roma are reportedly not offering him the sort of wage he knows he can get elsewhere, with more being added via bonuses rather than guaranteed income. The player knows that he would be able to earn significantly more in Paris.

The player was spotted in the Parc des Princes early in the month, watching the game between PSG and Marseille as a guest of the club. It probably wasn't the smartest move, but perhaps that was him flashing his eyelashes at PSG but also showing Roma that he means business.

This is a story very much out of left-field, but it isn't completely unfathomable. Pjanic has played in Ligue 1 before, both for FC Metz and Lyon. His time at the latter only ended because OL had to sell, not because of Pjanic's ambitions. And of course there is the huge factor that the coach at AS Roma is former Lille boss Rudi Garcia.

It was under Garcia that Cabaye shot to stardom, he was an integral part of Garcia's fantastic side that won the league and cup double in 2011. If he continues to find his place on the bench, there may just be a chance that he could link up with his old boss in Serie A next season.

 

Think Cabaye was a signing ordered by Blanc. There were a lot of rumours that the ownership wanted Pjanic or Pogba at the time. And tbh, probably could happen - probably wouldn't want to come back here unfortunately.

 

Sounds far fetched. He has started ok when given the chance. I'd be looking closely at their excellent youth system because opportunities will be restricted heading forward.

 

If it is true, then **** him. He made his bed.

 

PSG are building a squad capable of challenging on all fronts - they will need all of them.

It's not like they can't afford it!

I don't believe for a second that Cabaye will be moving again this summer or for the foreseeable future.
