Right on Queue - Knew he was one of the keepers coming in. Hes not bad at handling and a decent shot stopper, so should be a decent back up if needed
Unless they quit us for them beforehand. And yep, Rachubka now confirmed: http://www.leedsunited.com/news/20110623/united-capture-goalkeeper_2247585_2381126
How do you pronounce his name? I was going to add a smiley but can't stand these things that look like they belong in a 3 year old's nursery book! *laughing smiley*
Leeds have signed Blackpool goalkeeper Paul Rachubka from Blackpool. The 30-year-old keeper's arrival ensures the Championship side are not left without a senior goalie on their books, with current first-choice Kasper Schmeichel likely to join Leicester City. Rachubka was brought to Bloomfield Road by current Leeds boss Simon Grayson. He was the club's player of the season for 2007/08, but fell down the Seasiders' pecking order under current manager Ian Holloway. Grayson had earlier admitted he was close to signing a keeper, but stopped short of naming his target. Former England under 20 international Rachubka came through the ranks at Manchester United. He has played for Charlton Athletic and Huddersfield Town, as well as having loan spells at a host of clubs. Grayson said: "This was a deal we had put in place last week and I'm delighted to conclude it today, and I look forward to working with him again. "I worked with Paul at Blackpool, I have known him for a few years and know all about him. He's a good, experienced goalkeeper to bring in to challenge within the squad." He is unlikely to be the starting goalkeeper come the start of the season with more arrivals expected, but the player was delighted with his move to Elland Road nonetheless. He said: "I just can't wait to start training now. "I looked around the training ground on Thursday afternoon and I just wanted someone to train with! "I'm so enthusiastic about being here. I want to prove myself at a top class club. Leeds fans are fanatical and I want the chance to show them what I can do. "This is the time of year people talk, but next week we start training and the games start coming. That's the only place where I can prove what I can do. I enjoy pressure, and I can't wait to get started."
Interesting what SG says about him not being 1st choice keeper. Any thoughts on who will come in & start as 1st choice?
I can see Rachubka doing fine as backup. The fact he played nearly every game for Blackpool between 07-09 and played 20 games in their promotion season in 09-10 suggests he'll be an improvement on Higgs and good enough to step in if our new No.1 gets injured. I'm not bothered about his record last season; two of the games were against Premiership opposition and one was a cup tie where he played behind a weakened defence. Not that it means anything, but the Blackpool Gazette are reporting that Blackburn were looking at him as well.
I already told you lot you were signing him this morning, I do wish you'd pay attention. Brown will be the other, your taking the novel approach of not signing a first choice keeper, just signing two second choice ones.
Keep up, we've known for days . If Larry didn't see Brown as being better than Kasper when he was here on loan I doubt he'll suddenly decide he's better now. I expect Smithies to sign.
And it which part of the clip you posted did you see Town's keeper to make that sweeping statement that he wasn't bad? Leave the thinking to Daffy
I think if you watch it again you'll see the entire thing is about Rachubka. I don't think you see Myhill once, unless Hull suddenly decided to start trying to score past their own keeper .
He looks pretty good for a backup. I hope he's more commanding than Schmeichel was. All Kasper ever did was signal everyone to move forward every time the ball went out and look really frustrated.
Has anyone actually seen him play? Probably not. Judge him when he arrives, and he'll probably be 2nd choice anyway. He has said today that he wants to challenge for a place, so fair enough. He was ever present for Blackpool 07/08 season and first choice for them 08/09, and then played 21 games when Blackpool were promoted in 09/10 season. So he's been part of 2 promotions, and has worked under Grayson before. Sounds like a promising signing to me, especially if we get another keeper in.
Loads of people on the YEP are compaining abuot the fact he's saying he wants to be no. 1. What's he supposed to say? "I'm looking forward to collecting my pay cheque and sitting on the bench".
He'll certainly be second choice but he's a decent keeper. I remember him playing a few games for Man Utd years ago and he looked pretty good then. Was suprised when they let him go
He's cheap, and that my friends is all that counts, under Bates. We need the money for the hotel and other fecking stupid business plans for ER.
Right, that's it. I'm staying here. I've officially had enough of JA606. Every single WUM, Grayson-hater and doom-and-gloomer from the old BBC forum now hangs round there. It has got to be the most depressing website I've ever seen. I posted this article about Rachubka a few days ago. Check out some of the comments. http://www.ja606.co.uk/articles/viewArticle/8004 At least you guys are willing to at least try and be positive.
