http://www.theguardian.com/football...ckham-contract-ultimatum-gus-poyet?CMP=twt_gu Gus Poyet confident Connor Wickham will stay at Sunderland • Forward has been offered a new deal • Sunderland will sell him if he doesn’t sign Sunderland are quietly confident Connor Wickham will agree a contract at the Stadium of Light this month after Gus Poyet presented him with a “sign or be sold” ultimatum. The England Under-21 striker – an £8m buy from Ipswich in 2011 – has one year remaining on his contract and has been stalling on a new deal. Sunderland, though, are desperate to avoid losing for nothing a player currently interesting Leicester and Southampton. “For me, Connor’s situation is clear,” Poyet said. “He needs to sign a new contract or we let him go – there is nothing in between.” Sunderland’s manager has become increasingly anxious about a shortage of signings and is demanding that Lee Congerton, the club’s sporting director, secures four more additions before the start of the season. Santiago Vergini, who can play at centre-half or right-back, is close to completing a transfer from Estudiantes while Poyet remains optimistic that Fabio Borini will accept the £14m transfer agreed with Liverpool and will move to the Stadium of Light.
Excited about Vergini coming back if I was CW I def wouldn't be ****ing SAFC around, 6 decent games in 3 years! SAFC owes him nothing... Let your football do the talking CW and repay the faithful!
I'd take him at Newcastle. However signing Riviere means that will never happen. Gus is right to offer an ultimatum though. He can't be messing you about.
Well my view is tell him to get a contract signed or we will ruin his career by sticking him in the youth team for a year. In 12 months no one will remember Conner Wickham and he certainly wont get the same wages as if he signed a contract with us now.
That wouldn't happen though Vegas. Anyone coming in for him would know his stats and achievements. He's still just a kid, sticking him in the reserves would just put him back a year. But it could cost us a few million if we stuck him in the cooler for a year, coz he'd then just walk away. Best get what we can get for him now if that's the alternative. The smart thing to do is put him in the shop window, see who's interested, and if they're serious, bite their ****ing hand off. Otherwise, keep him him, get him out front and start the season the way he finished the last and see how he does. If he puts 2-3 away in August, either we keep, and gain, or we sell, and gain...
Agree with the sentiment but we can't afford to be doing that. There are sevral reasons but the biggest one is the message it gives to other players. We are already struggling to get anyone through the door, you think anyone would want to come play for us if our way of dealing with a contract dispute is to try to ruin the player's career?
Too many posters on this board are "getting-at" Connor Wickham for not signing a new contract, and calling him all sorts of names and complaining about how much he pays for a bottle of champagne!!What the heck he spends his wages on should be nothing to do with us fans! There seems to be people complaining that he is too greedy in his demands.Do we know what he is asking for?Is he not just asking for parity with Jozy's wages?I mean Jozy couldn't score in a brothel,so does Connor have a point?
Jozy brings with him 1 million twitter followers and is an international. Exposure in the us market is priceless.
I agree that if Conner wants to buy expensive champagne that's up to him how he spends his money. We also do not know what he is asking for, I do however think he should sign a deal or we sell him if he gets offered more money elsewhere then good luck to him, I am worried if the reason we have not signed anyone is that we are offering very little in wages is this also the reason Colback left
Then again should we not offer players what they are worth? I'm sick of Sunderland paying inflated wages for ****e and then being stuck with them on the books. If we want to move forward then surely we have to get our house in financial order. Conner is worth no more then 25k a week but he probably thinks he's worth more. Get rid if that's the case. It's like me being **** at work and asking the boss for a pay rise...he'll soon show me the door!
Connors dad tweeting 26 mins · @Stefan8271 · 23h Question ? How can someone agree to something that has not been offered ? Get your facts right ! @Stefan8271 · 15h How can people give Ultimatums over nothing offered ?
So what about `“For me, Connor’s situation is clear,” Poyet said. “He needs to sign a new contract or we let him go – there is nothing in between` They can`t both be right.
His dad is deflecting the **** he's getting on twitter i suppose, he's getting a canny bit like Not nearly as much as borini is getting from liverpool fans mind
