Exactly, if you can get a 4.5 star rated player for £5m due to a release clause then every get out clause should be stuck to :bandit:.

Suggestion for FM12, add the other types of clauses clubs use, not just the buy out clause! :p

Swans fan here, this kid has potential to be very good - only had 1 season in the championship but didnt do much wrong - quick and really good footballer - £2.5 million and he's yours. Full marks to your scouting system - I was hoping he would stay under the radar!

this is the same stunt that blackburn tried to pull with Phil Jones. they said that the clause only gave man utd permission to speak to the player. the chicken farmers were gutted that they were gonna l;ose there prize asset for less than they would have expected when man u come knocking. they were clutching at straws hoping to get a better deal but they didn't even have abasis to make a case for a legal argument and relented. i wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happens here.

there would be no point in a clause that only allowed the player to talk to the club. none whatsoever so they can't really make a case that that was the only intention of the clause.

It was put in by taylor when he joined us a 1 million bid says you can meet taylor and his agent for a coffee , but expect to pay 2.5 to 3 million if you want to buy him, swansea would rather he spend the season on the bench than sell him for less, derby found this out when they tried to tap bodde up a few seasons back,

Why would you sell him for only £2.5m then?

Like Jager already said, you're looking at this all wrong.

When we signed him from non-league football last pre-season we were competing for his signature with other clubs. That is how clauses come into contract negotiation; think of them as deal sweeteners. But our chaiman, Huw, is not the type of man to put AUTOMATIC release clauses into contracts as they represent too much of a financial risk.

Now Huw Jenkins could not know a) how the kid was going to perform, and b) where the club was going to end up come the season's end. Imagine the opposite scenario to what actually occurred for us last season. Taylor has a fairly impressive season, but, we still end up in the bottom three and find ourselves in League One. If any club from the championship wants to sign him from us, they are now going to have come up with a £1mill offer before they can even have a chat with us, and if that happened, we'd more than likely sell up.

Finding ourselves in the Premier League, the reality is that we have absolutely no reason to sell him. We do not need the money, and we have a history of keeping hold of players who supposedly want to leave us for bigger and better things e.g. Angel Rangel, Ferrie Bodde. I personally will be very surprised if he leaves us this Summer.

And for the record, you Toons have very short memories. It was not very long ago that you were scraping a fluky an undeserved 0-1 victory down at the Liberty thanks only to a £35mill striker. I can promise you that your visit this season will be even harder again.

It seems you have an even shorter memory since it was 1-1...

He is yet to prove himself in the premiership, the swans would take 2.5 to 3 m because thats what we feel he is worth at this time 1.1m is only a taster the toon will be back with a more realistic offer i am sure. and his agent put the clause in,

Some interesting points. Can understand the point of the clause if you had struggled this season, but I'd have thought you were more ambitious than that.

Also I remember a certain game at St James where two £0 strikers took you apart, namely Lovenkrands and Harewood.
