Anyone else disappointed he is heading to Sunderland?

Was hoping he would come to us, would have been a decent replacement for Nolan

  2. Not as good as Barton or Cabaye.

    Don't need him.

So what happens when Barton goes and Cabaye is injured/dosen't adapt straight away?

Danny Guthrie. Dan Gosling? They'll do the job IMO!

Seconded. Let the mackems have the players that couldn't save Birmingham from getting relegated.

  6. Barton will be here next season, and i have faith in Cabaye. He have, Cabaye, Barton, Tiote, Ben Arfa, Gosling and Guthrie who can all play central midfield.

    Good buy for us, methinks.

Obviously not as good as all of your midfielders, but there it is...

I still think we need a goalscoring midfielder though, dosen't seem like any listed here can do it consistently. That's what i feel Gardner could offer.

Not a position we're short in. We really need a quality striker.

    Let Sid have Gardner.

We need a goalscoring striker, and hopefully have it in Ba. The reliance on Nolan last season was shocking, he was undroppable because he was the only one likely to score.

Gardner wouldnt start ahead of Tiote or Barton, and probably not Cabaye either. Think he'd rather start for Sunderland than sit on our bench.

If the rumours are to believed we are still looking for another CM though, whether to replace Nolan, to replace another player who will soon be leaving or just because Pardew wants another body I don't know.

But if we are looking then I think Gardner is a good shout. Better than Gibson for sure, not as good as Matuidi (but cheaper).

So, I'll be disappointed if we end up with Gibson but won't be too bothered if we end up getting somebody else decent.

By the way, he has 17 career goals, just had a hot year last season, like Whittingham did for Cardiff when we were down.

why should we be looking for 'DECENT' replacements? Cabaye is an upgrade as should anyone else we bring in. Gardner yes is younger and more mobile maybe but isn't the quality we need.

Not bothered, as others have said we have Barton, Tiote, Gosling, Cabaye, Gosling and Guthrie. I don't think Gardner will score that many next season.

Nolan only scored because he had a good partnership with Carroll.

Got to agree partly with that, he's always scored goals in his career and at Bolton he would of had Kevin Davies' knock downs so a good big man up top is probably something he needs.

However when we sold Carrol he started playing in a deeper role rather than a supporting forward where he wasn't able to make himself available as often for goals.

Wouldn't have minded Gardner for some competition, he's probably better than what we have in reserve but not as good as first teamers. Wont cry over him going to Sunderland, unless he somehow scores their consolation goal at SJP next season.

I wouldn't have been upset if we signed him but he's not a player we need. Sunderland are more likely to offer him first team football so there it goes, he'd have been a bench-warmer here.

I would most likely be biging Cabaye up if we had bought him but the fact remains he has not played a single game in England. Veron anybody.
