All believable apart from the part about him going to Valencia and then being loaned back. Anyway, if he won't sign he'll be sold.
Don't get me wrong, I would not be unhappy if he stayed. I just don't think it would be the end of the world if he didn't. It would be nice to see him play in the middle again I agree on you with that.
i just think we could regret it if he goes now does the business and ends up going to the bin dippers or something for big money in the future
If we sell him I'm sure a sell on clause would be part of the agreement with the new club. I'd like to think the club would cover its arse in case he did come good.
im not so confident give our recent history of shooting ourselves in the foot with contracts and transfers
hopefully with congerton handleing it we will have a professionl and consistant approach to our dealings and we wont be letting contracts run down and get nowt back off them
It could be bluster from his Dad, it might not be true at all. Apparently west ham told him to return to Sunderland and told him to say he just wanted to move to be closer to his family. His Dad apparently is worried about him going to London as he apparently has some clinger on Essex boys who lead him astray. Newcastle did enquire but apparently he has some loyalty and said he wouldn't join them even though Colback is his best mate up here. My mate my be embellishing stuff who knows. The one thing he was adamant about was that Wickham will not sign because of how he has been treated. I am a massive Wickham fan so I hope my mate is wrong
in all honesty mate i belive in gus and if he says were trying to get him to sign and offering him contracts im partial to belive him
To be fair mate, a season isn't 6 games long, Borini, AJ, Giacc and every outfield player who played a part in gaining a point as well as our keeper and defenders who did their part at the other end are just as responsible for our safety. I'm not slating him. I just don't think the on pitch philosophy suits him, I don't think it suits Fletch. It suits Jozy but if he can't score that's no use to us anyway. My opinions on them are from watching them through their sunderland career, not two games. I'd rather Poyet just got his own men, hand picked for the system. They've got ability mate, doesn't mean they can slip well into any system. We need a new striker desperately. Just my opinion like, based on their football and nothing else
even with wickham i agree we need a striker as we cant count on fletch or jozy and wickham hasnt done it consistantly. i dont why we have left it so late, hopefully one of the 100's of rumours flying round comes off and we get what we need before the close of the window
He is a lad with limited ability who we paid over the odds for. The OP seems just to contain the plot of a soap drama; owner says no to selling, father worried about London influence, manager is holding gun to players head, player says no contract offered. It's either a soap or a comedy plot. Not worth getting bothered over.
Well yeah but never late than never so long as we get one. The right one. I mean, I know I say sell the lot but I know it could take 2, 3 even 4 windows to clear them and replace them. But one striker in this window is an absolute must for me
Would have took £2 Million happily before the few games last seasonâ¦. £6 Million move him on, he is Sh*te really, England Under 21's give up. We would always struggle with him upfront, we need better. Funk and Oosk are spot on, potential only, he aint worth £42k a week, who thinks he is ??
I would like to see Wickham playing in the middle and I do think he could be very good for us there. However, if he won't sign a contract then we need to replace him asap.
Reading this thread has amazed me. We are 2 games into the season and people have changed their minds about wickham already! I was at the utd game. And although he was out of position, I thought he played well. He worked hard, held up the ball brilliantly, was strong, and has pace. When played in the right position this guy will score goals, and create goals. If we let him go for 5-10 million i'll question the club's ambition. He's a quality player and I'd be gutted to see him leave. As for some of the comments on here, they are bordering on disgraceful.
How does our system suit jozy?? If we are playing the passing game, we will need our strikers to be good technically. Jozy is a trier, but struggles in most other departments, especially his ball control and vision. Wickham is perfect for poyets system. He's got a great touch for a big lad, holds the ball up well, and is very good with his feet. Add to that his ariel power and strength, and you couldn't get a better striker for poyet. Remember, it was poyet who gave him a chance in the first place, so he must fancy him for his style of football.
3 successive managers did sweet **** all for his development but when he got a real chance he took it with both hands and played a big part in us staying up. After some of the ****e players that have had big contracts from us I can't believe we're willing to let a player go that could be leading our line for years to come. Give him a decent contract with a few bonus for performances or goals and get the lad playing
