u21s are playing Sunderland 0-0 at the moment. DOnt know the full line ups, But Peterson, Brannagan, Rossiter, Randall, McLaughlin, Ojo, Lloyd Jones, Stewart, Lussey are all playing. Not the exciting team from a few years back. Missing Borrells touch? Rafas eye for a young un?
It's basically inevitable. We've not been buying youths and have shuffled everyone about 5 times so for me the u21s are now "no hopers" and u18s To produce a suso or Ibe requires find them and we've not been doing it All the good uns are 17 or in the seniors/ on loan. Oh and yes McLaughlin is now a no hoper to me sorry
Agree completely though. There isnt the talent that was there. Got high hopes for Rossiter and Brannagan but thats about it
Have we not just had a reshuffle last week with the academy, New blood in coaching wise etc? Maybe recognition it's stagnated a bit?
Pacheco, Nemeth, Lindfield, Mellor... Probably even Kelly on this list and Suso one day. The list of hyped up youngsters that were going to be the next Owens, Gerrards and Carraghers never made it far out weighs the ones that did. All the ones on the list above were heralded as the best of their generation and going to be new superstars at one point or another. Our youth players that did make it- Flanaghan, and Sterling- were never so heavily lauded as the list above during their youth days (until they made their senior debuts). It's almost as if its a given rule- the brightest prospects always seem to burn out before they get established in the first team... the ones that mature more slowly in their youth careers end up ruling the roost.
1. It's about the 3rd reshuffle in 3 years. Borrell f'd off to city etc 2. Sterling was always huge buzz since we signed him... Huge 3. Back in the day Owen was huge but Gerrard was only locally known and carragher was not IMO considered a star. I mean Kelly was a guy who was a big kid but not thought of that much and spearing was always called too small but was a great leader 4. Pacheco was an internet sensation, as in the lfc website was constantly pushing his name and I feel the hype overtook the ability. He was more than decent but you could see the moment suso turned in it was chalk and cheese. Suso was much better and 2 years younger. It was like a bubble of hype So all in all I feel that it's no harm to have u18s on u21 duty and pushing on but the judgement day is with the seniors. U21 is not that huge a challenge If we look back to May brad smith and paez played well in Ireland and McLaughlin looked pants. Teix came on and while its low end he carried that into first preseason game too In shirt if you are 20 playing u21 you are close to be doing something wrong IMO. I'm glad wisdom, smith, teixteria are on loan and do expect suso to go out too
Pacheco will make it...lol Still quite a commodity in Spain, had a good season last year. But still playing second division
Agree with all this, torn on whether Suso should go out on Loan though. His versatility could be massive for us in future years. he has everything combined with the right attitude. If he stays this season I fear he will not get the games he deserves, and if he goes on another loan I dont know if he will come back. Rock and a hard place, but a real quality player that will be very useful when teams sit back against us.
To Bolton..... Not a disasterous move but you would want a tiny but more but the reality is he's got to learn to finish and 40 games in the championship will improve him a lot in my view
Good result for the U21 last night beating West Ham 4-0 away from home. Ojo scored twice and one each from Yesil and Kent. Just watching the game replayed on LFCTV now. Some good football being played especially by Ojo, Kent and Brannaghan. Vigeroux in goal looks like a real good aquisition.
Well I'm glad yesil is back so we will see if Rodgers gives him a little reward for getting back when league cup rolls up. The boys had a mate so if he's fancied we will see I guess
Our Under 19's are currently beating Ludogorets Under 19's 4-0 in their opening game of the UEFA Youth Cup. Daniel Cleary, Alex O’Hanlon & two from Jerome Sinclair. Couple of minutes left now!
Dominated the first half and deserved the 3-goal lead. Went a little bit quieter in the second half with us still having the ball but not creating that many clear-cut chances.
Finished 4-0. Good result but there's going to be significantly harder games to come. Good start though. Would take that result for the first team tonight!
