With regards to your latest comment about the team of the year. You used it to support your claims of Cahill's quality so it was you who brought the importance of the team of the year into the discussion!

He was a very good player. You don't play in teams that won what he did without being a very good player. However when compared to the top midfielders in the other top teams, I'd say he was average in that company. Would it make it easier if I drew little pictures to help you get it?

Doesn't mean his in the top 2 defenders in the country though, much like Shaw is clearly not the best left back. Baines and Azpi were better for a start. Again I can't explain this any easier

It's like arguing with a creationist. However much evidence there is, carbon dating, fossils, natural selection etc, they still believe the earth is a few thousand years old.

I'll give you credit for shifting your argument as it became apparent that what you originally said was nonsense!

You used the team of the year to support your argument that Cahill was quality. I responded by saying that surely Cahill was **** as Shaw was also in the team of the year and has repeatedly been referred to as **** by the Chelsea squatters. Get it? It's not difficult!

 

UIR is definitely on par with Matth when it comes to judging players.

Currently Cahill is better than Jones but you'd expect that given their ages and experience. I think Jones will become a very good centre half. I find it odd that anyone has written him off at the age of 22 when he's never had a run in the team in his preferred position. Centre halves don't tend to hit their peak until their mid to late 20's.

I haven't seen enough of Shaw or Azpi to comment. I didn't see much of Saints last season and never really paid much attention to what Azpi was doing on the few occasions I did watch Chelsea. I have a Saints supporting pal who has been raving about Shaw for a couple of years and thinks he's the nuts. Out of the summer departures Shaw was the one he was sorriest to see leave. He was disappointed about Lovren as well but didn't give two hoots about Lambert or Lallana.

I also find it odd that people label Shaw as **** or average. In truth I think that's a pig ignorant opinion. The lad's 18 and has clearly shown a lot of talent and potential. If he was still at Saints, or still tipped to join his boyhood club Chelsea, the same people would currently be lauding him.

 

He's definitely not ****. He's got the potential to become the best left back on the planet. However he's not good better than Azpilicueta or Luis at this moment in time - Luis had been touted as the best left back in Europe last season.

 

Until this season, most foreign football fans (except United ones) probably didnt even know who Jones was.
He has been on the periphery of the United squad for years because they had defenders like Rio and Vidic.
Cahill has been a fully established England International for 2 years (not using that as a testament to his skill as England are ****), and a CL winner, giving an outstanding performance in the final.

Yes Cahill loses concentration and yes he gets skinnned and he by no means in the top 10 defenders in the world, but he is an above average workhorse.
Would I replace him if I could? Yes!

But I wouldn't replace him with Jones, not in a million years.
Jones has never been given the chance to shine, and as such has shown me nothing but mediocrity.
