Phillips was better but needs to test the GK more when he takes on one of his long rangers. Niko looked hungry today, possibly for a bucket of chicken but that goal may just keep his hungry fingers out of the bucket. Always like Henry, Solid.
We were lucky not to be punished today but for me the most pleasing aspect was that we didn't give up and came back twice. In Phillips we have someone who can put a decent cross in. He did twice today. That is what he should concentrate on. Niko's free kick and his overall attitude were superb today. There will be easier games.
In my opinion, Barton is the best player at QPR at the moment. We need him fit. We really miss him when he's not there. His work rate is great and he seems to be in every important situation on the pitch throughout each game. Vargas looked good and seems really fast. I thought Fer still looks good and has great dribbling. Charlie Austin looked a bit more up for fighting today, too. I just wish we had a manager who picks players based on form instead of based on how much he likes them. Also, is it too much to expect for the governing bodies to sort out some decent refs?
Joey above Henry - I think the same type of player - but we don't need both playing at the same time....
I disagree. Barton really should be pushing forward and running towards the ball when out of possession. Henry is more of the midfield organiser and pressure player. I think they'd word well together. I also think that Austin and Vargas might be able to make a good little team, but we'll see.
Glad Niko didn't go to Blackburn! Yes, Henry is a "Steady Eddie" type of player who you can rely on, practicing the KISS approach to the game. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
Positives - well at least we're not Newcastle with Alan Pardew, 2-0 down at home to Hull after a couple of fantastic goals from Jelavic (really spectacular) and Diame (who we missed out on signing). If they can't turn match around, it will likely be toast for Pardew. One back at least, Pappis Cissé scores, back from injury, 1-2, game on. 2-2 now, another goal from Cissé, he's single handedly saving Pardew's bacon!
Nico was excellent and got us a point. Traore and Henry especially did very well and Barton while he was on was good. Phillips put in some decent crosses that Hoillet wouldn't, Arry made the right call there, but he needs to work on his shooting! Good fight at the end too.
Plenty of spirit and fight today, which pleased me. Stoke are a settled side and Moses was outstanding. We're still pretty much a team of strangers but we'll improve. Then, whether we stay up depends largely on injuries and whether we can get in another decent striker in the Jan window imo.
Niko was superb, Barton was running the midfield until his injury. Fer got better as the game went on, and we looked more solid with Henry on the pitch. Negatives, Ferdinand was poor and Isla was embarrassingly awful!
Kranky played a great game and had a dig for us. Unfortunately, the forwards never looked like scoring but from my point of view ( ... and humble opinion ) we had no one up, in the middle. Stoke always had a cluster of players in the middle of the park. By the way, that Shawcross may be a good player but he is grossly unsportsmanlike. I thought l'd was watching a wrestling match. How the ref didn't see it all game is beyond me. Again, thank fudge for Kranky.
Positives. 1. We showed some fighting spirit and came back twice from being a goal down. 2. After scoring one goal in our first four games, we managed to score twice today. The ability to score goals in this league is vital. 3. Krancjar probably had his best game ever in a QPR shirt today. I am one of his biggest critics but he had a great game today. 4. Leroy Fer had a great second half. Looking forward to his performances this season. 5. Enjoyed my day meeting all the Irish R's including Inky and Tramore. Flanman travelled all the way from Holland. Roller, Tooting and Staines. Great to have a little chat with you all. Great to say a brief hello to Judo and Sussex in Clapham Junction on our way back to Gatwick. Negative Inky got up at 2.45am and traveled over 450 miles from Waterford via Dublin to London to see his beloved R's and missed the first goal due to bladder issues lol. Great day out and far more positives.
Very glad to hear you had a great trip, at least we didn't lose, and that you met up with all those familar faces from my Charlton match last year, where I seem to recall, just before half-time, you almost fell victim to missing Charlie's wonder goal right in front of us. Onwards & Upwards!
It definitely had a similar feel today Kilburn. We even sat in the same seats in the Lower School End as we did for your visit. The early start was different. We didn't win and we didn't get a wonder strike but you were very much in our thoughts today. As I said, a very enjoyable and positive day all round.
