I still think this lad will come good at some stage. I have been shocked by how much he struggled, and more than anything, his chronic lack of pace.

At least he is acknowledging his struggles and displaying a willingness to adapt. The easy thing to do when you are not playing is to throw the toys out and question the manager (especially given ours is such an easy target <laugh>).

Not the first to be surprised by the pace and intensity, he deserves a bit of time.

We were after him for a couple of years ..sooo.. I assume the club know what he is capable of/potential etc .. I like him and think he will be given the time needed..its not so much the physical pace of the PL game it seems to me more the 'mental' pace of it that seems to be throwing him..He expects more time to think it seems (although he does seem a little light weight physically)

What I do like is his attitude ..benched ..I need to work harder. Plus on saturday liked that when he was brushed off the ball(as usual), he was back up and getting stuck in again (think it was Dier).

Another consideration is that we have been so immobile and pedestrian since he got here it not the ideal 'groove' for a creative, nippy, touch n go type player. there was way too much give the ball to Cabella and the rest of the team standing around watching him till he got brushed off the ball etc etc

Edit: writing about being brushed off ball/light weight etc ..made me think of this: He will come good View attachment 33999

I was also impresed with the way he responded to being dropped - getting down to some hard work rather than sulking. I'd like to see him succeed. Like Nolberto said, we spent long enough chasing him, with plenty on here screaming for the club to just get on with it and sign him, so it would be a shame to write him off after only a handful of games. He definitely has ability and hopefully can adapt to the physical side of the game here too. There were signs on Sunday hat he might be beginning to do that.

Given time he will more than prove his worth. Alot of people dismissing him already which is just insane. We had Shola on the books for the 13 years for f** sake and some give this lad grief after a handful of games? Complete retardery imo.

Early days here but he has struggled, however I thought he was very impressive when he came off the bench against Tottenham. Just hope it can be the start of him finding his feet at Newcastle United.
