GUS POYET insists it is premature for Sunderland to consider abandoning the system they have worked on for the last four months. Sunderland predominantly used a 4-1-4-1 formation throughout last season after Poyet took charge, and the Black Cats have worked with that strategy throughout pre-season and during the opening exchanges of the current campaign. Back-to-back defeats, coupled with Sunderlandâs descent into the Premier Leagueâs bottom three, has understandably prompted question marks over whether a fresh approach is needed on the tactics board. Poyet added: âI want basics now. Go back to basics. âThatâs what makes a team, when youâve got basics and you do the basics all the time. âWeâve been training hard trying to go back to basics. âWe need to make sure we defend like we did before Southampton. âThere will be times when they (Palace) are on top and we need to defend, and when we are on top, we need to score. âThose things need to change quickly because we are down there.â Nowt like showing your hand Gus
The formation is not the problem its the players playing it. Were missing Giacc or Alvarez because at the moment creativity is minimal.

We Brown committed a howler to let Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez through on goal last week. Goalkeeper Vito Mannone's errors were directly responsible for several goals in the 8-0 hammering at Southampton, while the Italian was inexplicably caught in possession against the Gunners to gift Sanchez a second goal. Poyet though is confident things will turn around. "I just want to play another game and make sure the team is there," he said. The boss will get that chance when Sunderland travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on Monday night.
