GUS POYET insists it is premature for Sunderland to consider abandoning the system they have worked on for the last four months. Sunderland predominantly used a 4-1-4-1 formation throughout last season after Poyet took charge, and the Black Cats have worked with that strategy throughout pre-season and during the opening exchanges of the current campaign. Back-to-back defeats, coupled with Sunderlandâs descent into the Premier Leagueâs bottom three, has understandably prompted question marks over whether a fresh approach is needed on the tactics board. But head coach Poyet plans to keep faith with his formation â believing it is the 8-0 defeat at Southampton a fortnight ago which has overshadowed Sunderlandâs previous success with the system. âI think itâs early to go too clever. I donât think itâs time to change the shape or do something silly,â said Poyet. Poyet added: âI want basics now. Go back to basics. âThatâs what makes a team, when youâve got basics and you do the basics all the time. âWeâve been training hard trying to go back to basics. âWe need to make sure we defend like we did before Southampton. âThere will be times when they (Palace) are on top and we need to defend, and when we are on top, we need to score. âThose things need to change quickly because we are down there.â Nowt like showing your hand Gus
The formation is not the problem its the players playing it. Were missing Giacc or Alvarez because at the moment creativity is minimal.
This is true and you cant mitigate for individual errors In other news ......... Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has been forced to watch defensive errors and unforgivable individual mistakes cost his team dear in recent defeats against Southampton and Arsenal. The results have left the Black Cats in the relegation zone, but the Uruguayan is determined that going "back to basics" will improve things. Speaking to the Sunday Times, Poyet explained, "At the moment I want to go back to basics and make sure we are a proper team on the pitch, difficult to play [against], no mistakes, take your chances, don't give [anything] away." He continued, "I would like to be lucky every now and again, but you cannot be asking for luck when you are making the mistakes we have made in the last two games." We Brown committed a howler to let Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez through on goal last week. Goalkeeper Vito Mannone's errors were directly responsible for several goals in the 8-0 hammering at Southampton, while the Italian was inexplicably caught in possession against the Gunners to gift Sanchez a second goal. Poyet though is confident things will turn around. "I just want to play another game and make sure the team is there," he said. The boss will get that chance when Sunderland travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on Monday night.
Right, Poyet won't change the system as I thought, who'd play Brown at rb now? With no overlap at all for the inverted winger meaning they have to drift further out isolating our lone forward?
Alvarez, we can hardly be missing him he has hardly figured and is really an unknown quantity, Giacc has rarely played a full game.
Well, there it is - 1. Racism is against the law, as I trust you are aware of this ... 2. Don't be rude, act as you would in the real world and comport your good self with dignity 3. Don't threaten people with violence in the 'real world', it makes you look ridiculous Hope that helps
