He has a long term future on the basis that we won't buy in better. Whether he'll be a 'star of the future' or not is another matter. I'm not totally convinced. In terms of potential, I think he'll end up being about on a par with where Saylor is now.

Agree, I think Haidara has more potential.

To me dummet is a hard worker and plays for the shirt much like Stevie Taylor but to me he is a liability ... Much like Danny Simpson before him he has no craft when attacking and crosses like he wants to hit row z and I don't think I've ever seen a player as slow as him...

I see him as one for the future at squad level.
I have a feeling he will be played more and nmore as a CB as he gets older.

He possibly may have a future as long as we don't buy another LB.
You never know, CB may turn out be his best position.

I can understand why Pardew picks him ahead of Haidara.
I always thought the first job of a defender was to defend and stop the opposition from scoring.
Given that Haidara seems to struggle with that simple concept and is as much use as chocolate fire guard, I'd pick Dummett first.

Still doesn't mean he's any good, just that the two vying for the spot aren't up to the task.

Same here Seabass. He's getting better game on game for me, and was really good against Citeh. Today he kept Sterling very quiet, didn't let him have too many sniffs, which is quite something considering Raheem has a billion times more pace.

He needs to become dominant in the air, and have a bit better awareness in the box, but he's solid at the moment, with the potential for being a good player indeed.

I think he has been one of our best players in this recent run, and was an absolute rock against City - had Dzeko in his pocket. In my opinion he is a far superior defender than Haidara. Haidara has been much better going forward but he is nowhere near as solid defending. I see no reason why Dummett can't go on improving.

A fantastic couple of games for Dummy. My worry is that Pardew puts Santon straight back in again once he's fit. Dummett looking so much more solid than Santon ever has.

It wouldn't shock me to see, at some point, both in the team...(depending on injuries/suspensions)

    Janmaat - Colo - Dummett - Santon

Possibly. Not that end of the world if we played that, but for me my preference is to never see Santon playing LB. He is useful but would much rather he was further up the pitch, often looked exposed at LB when playing there. Surely he'd be better right hand side?

I think he has it in him to be a more than decent midfielder/winger. I think, a bit like HBA, he is another who is better on the wrong side.

I think Dummett was outstanding today, battled hard and never gave up.
Showed why he's in the team ahead of Haidara.

    He was indeed superb today.
It's good to see our young lads playing so well.

Dummett is in great form. I keep hearing Haidara is better. He certainly offers more going forward, but that is far outweighed by Dummetts superior defending at present. Which of course is the deciding factor when discussing defenders.

Seeing that goal again on MOTD, Dummett's sprint to get up the pitch and support the attack was immense. Sissoko will get the credit for the assist, but Dummy had a big hand in the goal.

Prior to yesterday I always thought Haidara was better than Dummett. But yesterday Dummett was absolutely fantastic and certainly had Sterling locked away in his pocket.
