Who invented the atomic bomb which effectively ended WW2? http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_bombings_of_Hiroshima_and_Nagasaki
Battle of Britain! Cant get more stiff upper lipishness than that! Probably one of the most important battles of the war basically because it kept the option open to launch the western front later in the war! It meant that Germany weren't as well prepared to invade Russia as they would have liked to have been and the extra troops who had to stay behind and 'guard' France could have been crucial on the eastern front and tip the balance in Germany's favour! Germany were a midges knacker from taking Moscow. A few more extra German troops could have finished Russia!
tv show last night saying the IRA were in talks with the Nazi's to invade Ireland, but while plans were being made, America entered WW2 and sent troops to Britain that put a stop on the invasion
It's funny how, even in war, commerce is still put ahead of lives. The US Air Force did all the daylight bombing raids whilst the RAF did the, comparatively safer, night time raids because we had invented RADAR and could fly at night. We didn't give them it to use as we didn't want Uncle Sam nicking our ideas and profiting from it.
RAF, Battle of Britain, played a massive role in winning the war for the allies. If Germany had won air superiority, D-Day could never have happened and Germany would only have been fighting on one front so Russia would have had a much harder fight on its hands. The one thing that pisses me off big time, is that ****ing Hollywood movie (cant remember its name, but a recent one) that had the American's recovering the Germany encyption (Enigma) keys off a U-Boat when it was us that did it
I watched it ages ago and he's basically dying in hospital and hallucinating (I think). It's been that long since I've seen it but I'm sure he's dreaming.
