At this weekend's season finale in Abu Dhabi, the much-derided double points rule means anyone finishing in the top ten will get twice as many points as usual. Much like NASCAR's Chase, it's an attempt by the sport's rule makers to inject extra tension into the final rounds of the season, but fans and competitors alike have criticised the system. Under the regulation, points in Abu Dhabi shall be awarded in the following order for the top ten: 50-36-30-24-20-16-12-8-4-2. Although the title battle between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg would have gone to the final round regardless of the one-off rule, Rosberg's 17-point gap to Hamilton looks far less substantial with double points on offer. Here's what the two title contenders need to happen in order to be crowned 2014 world champion this weekend. Hamilton needs to finish: First or second Fifth or better if Rosberg fails to win Sixth if Rosberg finishes third or lower Eighth if Rosberg does not reach the podium. Ninth if Rosberg is not in the top four Tenth if Rosberg cannot manage better than sixth Rosberg needs to finish: First if Hamilton is not second Second if Hamilton is not in the top five Fourth if Hamilton is no higher than ninth Fifth if Hamilton is no higher than tenth Rosberg cannot wins if he finishes sixth or lower Money has to be on Lewis to win. He was fastest in practice today so looking good
Ha ha. To be honest nothing as it may go down as racing incident or a 5 grid penalty or similar for the next race which would be Australia next year. But would he want to have his reputation tarnished by people always saying he could only win the championship by crashing into him on the last race
i've still got concerns me like, german driver in a german car going down to the wire, out of all the sport this weekend, I honestly dont know what i'm looking forward to more, us v leicester, the arse v manure, the mega night of boxing, super sunday or the F1 and tbh, i'm swaying towards the F1, needless to say the kids are staying out and i have the weekend to myself
I actually think he's now got the upper hand, psychologically. In a straight fight Rosberg has no chance. Going back to my earlier point, no one mentions Hill being rammed off the road by Schumacher to ensure he won.
because that is the first thing out of the way 3pm start until sunday evening, its one hell of a boxing card, i'm a massive sports fan, obviously the lads result is the most important bus as a spectical, be the F1 or the boxing for me
Anything can happen. They'll lock out the front of the grid anyway, but slow in the pit, an extra lap on the wrong tires, stuck in traffic etc, small incidents that happen for all drivers so so often. Could go either way. On paper, its Hamiltons, reality is different.
With the advantage they have over everyone else Hamilton just needs to be first into the first corner on Sunday. If Nico crashes into him he risks throwing his chance. If not Hamilton will drive into the distance. If Nico is first into that first corner he should just sit on his tail and play safe unless a really obvious opportunity to pass comes his way. It never works out that simple in reality tho...
Not a big F1fan to be honest, but I live about 15 minutes away from the track..So many people here now, the place is buzzing, I did manage to get a ticket to see The Who at the after race gig...now I can't wait for that
Cant shift it, Merc team, German team principal, German driver. German manufacturer who will be world champion. I hope it's lewis but have a feeling some German towel situation will played out today, hope I am wrong.
I'm worried can't watch it and I'm a massive fan. The pressure on Lewis today is gigantic come on kidda you've done it before.
And to top it off rosberg is walking around with the biggest grin Agree with all you say marra I started a post about it a few month back.
