The persecutions of Muslims in Burma have intensified in the last two decades and are still on going. The numbers though don't really compare to the flight of the Syriac and Iraqi Christians of recent years ( I'm not underplaying this by any means, just mentioning it solely on a numbers basis). People who have inhabited these areas for two thousand years and centuries before Islamic armies drove north. The expansion only occured due to the Byzantine and Persian Empires being totally exhausted through years of warfare and fell before the onslaught. It is interesting to think how far the Islamic expansion could have pushed if not defeated at Tours and Constantinople.

The former because the one true god (obviously, all the other ones are properly ****...) made them, with love (obviously), with the inclination to be sexually attracted to kids. If that's the right god (and he is, what are the Hindu's doing with that elephanty-bastard... obviously bullshit), then I suspect my mate is god, he often says "if there's grass on the wicket, play it"... Well I hope he's god, otherwise he's just a blasphemus bastard.

The latter were victimised because the christian nutjob wished to make a point about the islamisation of the west...

None of the Muslims killing people are doing anything related to their god either, or have I missed the passage in the Qur'an which preaches about the noble pursuit of killing non-Muslims...? They're just sick twats who have been told they'll get 72 virgins in heaven... Incidentally, what kind of desperate sadcase dreams of that? I have enough problems keeping up with one lass...

The vast majority of Muslims, a healthy 1.6 billion or so, don't want anything to do with them.

I'm off to Constantinople later this year for a bit of a gander.
    Fascinating place.
Every man and his dog apparently sacked it at some point.

Off topic I'm still getting used to these new mod tools so I'm gonna click the warn button to see what it does (please let me know what happens).
Consider yourself warned that this post is too bloody funny a post. :)

First off, I have to question why you put this on a forum for football related discussion. This is not the place to talk about such things. I'm sure many newspapers have comment sections where your comments would be more appropriate.

I speak as someone who was born in the Middle-East, whose sister is married to an Arab, and partner is a scholar in Arabic and Middle-Eastern studies. Your sentiments are very black/white. Islam bad, the rest good. It worries me when I see stuff like this. It's a view tabloids and right-wing media are wrongly perpetuating. As always, it's never that simple.

To start with the bad. Islam has got a problem with extremism. The way Islam is interpreted varies considerably by country, region, and denomination. A pew research poll conducted recently compared the percentage of people agreeing with the statement: "Should people be put to death for leaving Islam?" Some countries, such as Turkey and Lebanon, are comparatively moderate, where the percentage of people who agreed with this was very low. Others, such as Afghanistan and Pakistan for example, scored much higher (upward of 70%). This is a problem something that needs to be acknowledged and tackled.

However, tarring all Muslims with the same brush is simply wrong. Of the many Muslims I have met, I personally have never come across any who would condone what some extremist nutjobs are doing recently. This generally holds for the vast majority, whose collective outcry of anger and frustration when an extremist act happens is vastly under-reported in the media. Check out Jordan's and Egypt's responses to some of IS' latest pranks if you want a taster.

Extremism comes in many shapes and forms, but more often than not is related to other important factors, such as lack of formal education and unstable socioeconomic climate. It's no surprise that countries which struggle in these areas are the ones which produce the most extremists.

We can sit here and compare religions until we are blue in the face, but ultimately it is a pointless pursuit. Nutcases will continue to commit atrocities in the name of whatever deity they follow. I'm an atheist, and I'm disgusted by the recent killings of Muslims in the United States BY an atheist. He's pretty much just single-handedly destroyed one of the main arguments for atheism - that we don't kill people in its name. This was an abhorrent act, but again, vastly under-reported.

Please read up on the background in the region and the faith before you post again.

Two mate but for all intents and purposes after the 1204 sacking by the Crusader/Venetian armies it never fully recovered. The 1453 sack by the Ottoman's, while comparivetly milder than the brutal orgy of destruction two and half centuries, was just the final, almost merciful coup de grace for the once magnificent Empire.

What about the abuse rings our very own politicians and security services have been involved with/covering up for years?

Or the genocide "Israel" has been allowed to commit for decades?

Or the fact the west have been helping to destabilise and start uprising all over the place? (mainly the middle east)

How come no one ever mentions the zionists?

Of course, cos they control the media!!!!

The four exclamation marks have really hammered your point home, I'm going to have to go away and think about what you've said.

You can flex your mod-muscles on me any time hun <smooch>

Seems to do bugger all, except start a private convo with me mate. Perhaps it's a convo Supermods can also see, or maybe a certain amount of warnings issues a ban, but from what I can see it's just a private convo <ok>

We shouldn't allow the media to be the sole guide for our moral stance on this emotive topic.
