I was one who didn´t really think he´d be any good when he was appointed. Who was he? I had asked myself, another left field Pozzo signing out of the blue. Strange, how a good run can make the turmoil seem forgotten, and it was turmoil for while at the Vic, with regards to managers. He is starting to prove (some) doubters wrong, he seems reasonably astute in dealing with wrong-doers (Dyer, Andrews, Mcgugan) and tactical changes, I don´t like a manager who is scared of putting a sub on, Zola a the end of his wonderful tenure infuriated me with his lack of it. S.J. hauled Layún off today and it paid dividends, we´ve won ugly too recently. Also, he talks a good game, but don´t they all. However, maybe he is growing into his role and people like me, as usual, didn´t know what the real S.J. was about. Originally, it was a bit of a shock appointment mind. Finally, some stability though, which is paying dividends. In reality, he has got some great players at his disposal given the division... ¿What do you think now his is a while into his tenure?
I was very unsure..... but now I am starting to be convinced...... we are not giving in so much now when things go against us... and his reaction at Bolton really helped me warm to him... and we are WINNIN G!
I've liked him from the off tbh. His first show of strength with the trouble makers was a great start, and yes, he says the right things, but he acts on it. He's the first manager/head coach to say what we are all thinking about what's going on on the pitch, and he acts on it. He often will see what is going wrong in a game and make substitutions that changes it correctly. Most importantly, he has got the players playing as a team, something they never did under Sannino. It's wonderful to watch the progress, and if he can correct the mistakes he and we see happening still, he will have us being the best team in the Championship. I'm glad he finally has people singing his name, he deserves it.
The player seem to respect and play for him generally which is the main thing after the Sannino mess.
I really was against the introduction of Jokanovic in the beginning. There's no doubt about it. I am definitely in the pro Jokanovic camp now! Given the amount of points we have taken from losing positions, nobody can doubt his tactical nous. A lot of our success from losing positions has to be put on to the players character. But who is it that reassures the players of their ability to turn things around?! Plus, Jokanovic's reaction to the winning goal at Bolton.
I try to wait for a few games before I judge a new manager. Of course, the first thing you see/hear are the interviews for the TV and I did like what i was seeing and hearing. As H said, we quickly sorted the dressing room out and certainly has got us playing as a team and with a growing confidence - of course there is work to be done, but I am feeling very comfortable with him. I really like the song we got going at Brentford:- Slaviša, oh oh oh Slaviša oh oh oh He comes from Serbia He'll fcking murder ya.. Slaviša oh oh oh Not very PC but quite funny
Agreed it is too early to judge, but I did see a stat somewhere that said he was our most successful manager/coach ever in terms of wins, excluding the guys who only were in temporary charge.
His command of English is improving too shown by the fact he now gives post match interviews. This can only help communication with the players but I still caanot understand a word he says
On that topic, this gave me a chuckle on Twitter the other day: Luke O'Nien @LukeONien · Mar 1 This Is The Day I Made My Debut! It Was Also The Day I Realised I Didn't Understand Italian!
I was in the "what the hell is going on now?" camp but, like more or less everyone else, am loving what i'm seeing. There's still things to get right but the team ethic is fantastic and they never give up as was evidenced at Bolton, Leeds and Brentford and, in a different type of way, away at Bournemouth where they still believed they could get something despite everything going against them. Will be good to see what he's like at handling cup finals as we've got 14 or so of them to play between now and May!
I am still sat on the fence with my legs dangling over the 'Pro Slav' side. I like the guy. But I still feel he could be getting more from this stellar squad of players. When we do hit top gear we are a very, very good side. But too often we don't show up as a team and get out of third.
I think he's exactly what our squad need... A tough manager that doesn't look like he'll get pushed around. Once the players realise that he's actually an alright manager I think it'll all click. He's still a fairly recent appointment, had no pre-season, no time to get to know his players, etc...He's gotten rid of the problem-makers, showed the players that no-one is safe by rotating them fairly frequently and generally seems to make them play better after half-time. Also, I wouldn't want to pick a fight with him Sannino never looked like he had the authority to keep this squad under control. I'm not overly bothered about promotion, it'd be nice to have another go at the PL (and I'm worried lots of our squad will seek a move if we don't go up), but the gap between the division is too big and I don't see the point in getting promoted just to come straight back down... At the same time, maybe our squad is more suited to PL footy? Ramble over
