ENGLAND cricket management have hinted that WG Grace could be recalled to the international scene. The former Gloucestershire batsman has not played for his country since dying in 1915. But with England failing in Australia, the clamour is mounting for the bearded 167-year-old to make an unexpected return from the grave, possibly at the expense of Gary Ballance. ECB chairman Colin Graves said: “Everybody knows the qualities that WG brings to any team he plays for. I don’t think the fact he is buried in a cemetery in Bromley should be any barrier to getting into the current England side. “The deceased issue has been blown out of all proportion by the media.” Piers Morgan, a long-time top mate of WG, took to Twitter to back the decomposed all-rounder: “Time to shed prejudice against dead. If you are good enough you are alive enough.” -Daily Mash-
Just watched an amazing innings by Martin Guptill of New Zealand, 237 not out including one six that has gone over the roof at Wellington which is some strike. It was an innings of quality rather than slogging, pure timing and something the England players should look and learn from. The Windies look well-beaten but if anyone could take on the challenge of 394 to win it'll be Chris Gayle, if he's on-song it could be explosive...
I was looking forward to watching the NZ/SA highlights last night but ITV keep sodding around with the schedules, one night it is on ITV 4 at 10:15, last night it was on ITV 1 at 11:15, couldn't stay awake long enough to see it......was fantastic drama following it live on the beeb text during the morning. Hope the 2nd semi is as good tomorrow......
Go on the Black Caps!Backed them at the start, and they haven't let me down.Fantastic match against South Africa, and the sheer will to win just got them home. It's going to be a massive ask in the final, either against Australia or India,it will be the Kiwi's first game outside their homeland, but I think they're up to it!
I hope New Zealand win. They have plenty of big hitters, led by McCullum, who along with Gayle is the most exciting batsman to watch. It takes some nerve when you're 5'8" tall to come down the wicket to 90mph fast bowlers and hit them back over their head.
Yep. I've watched the highlights now. Fantastic game and as you say, great drama. I'd really like the black caps to win it.
