BK one question is it right to go down when the foul or coming together isn't enough force to make you go down. Surely if you then decide to fall over by it's very nature you must have dived. As Volkes said there wasn't enough contact to make him for want of better words 'fall over', so if he did fall over wouldn't that be diving and therefore cheating. I totally agree that refs need to start giving penalties when there is a foul and the player hasn't thrown himself 10 foot in the air and screamed like a 10 year old child. When they give fouls and people are still on their feet, I would like to say the diving would stop, but I know it wouldn't.
unsurprisingly lawrenson has us to lose to Spurs also, no suprises there. As for savage;s comments on Ashley Williams, it's a huge favour to us as any manager of the top 6 teams will now steer well clear, such is the impact of a former talentless player with even less talent as a "pundit" who can barely speak in coherent sentences and thinks repeating "I'm not having it" over and over again is getting any kind of point across.
Hate to say it but I agree with Lawrence for once. We have a difficult game tonight and Spurs will be smarting after their weekend loss so will come at us at home. Another incentive they have is that we have an outside chance, almost, of nicking a euro spot which is all Spurs have to play for now. Savage is a comedy act and not to be taken seriously, just laugh at him, that's what he's there for.
I can't sit here and say it's right for people to fall over when the contact isn't there...it's not. But, in my mind, it comes from the referees themselves - and, for me, the referees can't complain that diving is making their job hard because by persistently not rewarding players that stay on their feet, they are actively encouraging players to go down to get the penalties and fouls. They are making their own jobs harder by not punishing divers properly and accordingly. They've created a grey area between outright, blatant diving, and players who feel they have to fall over when fouled to get a penalty. It may be diving to throw yourself down (remember, you don't have to scream and writhe around in pain to dive) and, in essence, cheating, but would players have to throw themselves down if they actually thought the ref would give the foul if they stayed on their feet? Taylor fouled Vokes and the ref did nothing - so, no matter what Vokes has said post-match, I'd put a tenner on Vokes throwing himself down the next time it happens to him. He'll be thinking, "last time I stayed on my feet when I was obviously being fouled and the ref gave me nothing". It's down to referees. There are players who are divers and will always be divers - they will dive no matter what the rules are, they can't be changed. But, by referees not giving obvious fouls and penalties like the one on Saturday, we're at the point where previously honest players may feel that they have to go down when they're fouled to get a decision.
I've gone for a 2-1 win for us at White Heart Lane in my Super 6. Our new found steel seems to really get under other teams' skin and we're very hard to break down. Spurs are...*cough*...I mean, Kane is out of form, and we seem to find goals when we need them at the moment. I think Lawrenson is going to find that his feeble points prediction for us will take another hammering!
Draw with us doing a Southampton. 0 - 0 maybe Spurs are 3rd in the home form league fro the last 6 games (M.Utd 3rd!) Swans 7th in last 6 away games. Could be close.
I agree with this, but don't agree with top pundits and players advocating diving which if Vokes had gone down would have been a dive. That's along with the poor refereeing makes players think that its ok just to fall over.
Lol, looks like he's finally starting to realise what a twat he is: He then proceeds to predict another Swansea loss...quite funny really. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31688496
Lawro forecasts another defeat against Villa ............ So that will be 19 points from 30 matches......
Aswan - I'm pointing out that per Lawro, after this Saturday's game with Villa, given his forecasts we would have only 19 pts. Whereas, even if we lose, we will have more than double that! Nevertheless, do you not think that we are capable of getting something?
Perfectly capable, but I'm not overly confident If we'd played Villa a month ago I suspect Lawro would have us down for a win, but given their results in their last three games, it's certainly not clear-cut any more.
Not clear cut as football is football, but still can't see past a win in my eyes. Sunderland have been likened to a pub team, and West Brom was a local derby which isn't to hard to get the players up for. Right now, their confidence is built on sand, not rock. They've pulled a mini-gap to relegation, are in the semis of the FA Cup, they must think they're on cloud 9 - but they've not actually played anyone of note. It's the perfect time to play them, I think. I think there'll be a hint of overconfidence about them tomorrow, but the fact is that they just aren't a very good team - not last season and not this season. It's not a coincidence where they finished last season and where they currently are now - they're not very good. Not saying we're streets ahead, but we are better than them. I think we'll put them back in their place tomorrow. Happy to eat my words if any Villa fans are reading this, but we'll have to wait and see after the match.
Saw this somewhere recently Lawrenson aka Mystic Mug We keep hearing the saying "you don't become a bad team overnight" so "you don't become a good team overnight" either and Villa have been pretty awful for years. Swans 2 - 0 oops, sorry, forgot we have Gomis up front Swans 1 - 0
No idea why some of you get so upset. Why do you care what one person thinks of the Swans. We've proved him wrong, and that's all that matters. If you get angry with everyone that doesn't think like you, you'll spend your whole life being angry. Just ignore him. He's one person out of over 7 billion.
I think it's the case that he's probably paid a high-end six figure salary straight from taxpayers' money (i.e. our money) - so it can easily get under some people's skin when he gives his run-of-the-mill, pub table observations/opinions. If he wants to give such basic football opinions, nobody would care if he was doing it down the pub, but on his salary he should be doing more research and giving insightful, creative analysis. In my opinion, he's outdated, like much of the BBC...but that's another discussion.
I'm actually praying that he continues to underestimate us like this. His prediction has us joint bottom with Leicester. I want his prediction table to show us bottom, with us actually being in 7th or 8th in reality. I want him to look *absurdly* incompetent with his predictions now; not just a *little* bit
For most people, the time would have come where they would look at their predictions and think "Damn, I have seriously messed up with that team... better do the opposite of what I think." Not Lawro though, he is stubborn
