I have a solution. Why don't the mods ban all of us? We would all get along much better due to not being able to talk to each other. Simples! Cloakroom.....
oi steady!!!! Whose calling for bannings? Not me. Get your facts right before sounding off at me. OK?
Which is fine and good for you. Just don't see what it has to do with a once impressive footballing ability. If someone I love died, I'd find it a bit odd that that provoked people to say what a great analyst I am
My god you are well thick ,, if you read back through the posts people have requested bannings are you dumb or something ?
are YOU thick? read my post der! yes they have, but not myself.....why then accuse me of being old bill?
I think some of us just don't agree with ripping the guy a new one, regardless of how bad he was (imo this has been exaggerated), when he has just suffered a devastating loss. Seems to me to be a lack of common human decency and compassion. Don't kick a guy when he's down I suppose is the way I feel about it.
Fair enough. I guess it's in part a reaction to people, off the back of a tragic loss to him personally, suddenly seeing him as a top bloke (he's not) who didn't do that badly for QPR (he was beyond awful).
Interesting mix of sympathetic and not so sympathetic feelings for Rio. As others have said, if I put myself in his position, work (let's not kid ourselves, although for us QPR is dear to our hearts, for Rio it is a job, as it was for him at Man Utd, and before that West Ham) comes second to family. How many of us have missed work, or underperformed at work due to a family illness or a bereavement? I would actually say credit to him for keeping it secret until now, a lesser man would have paraded his personal struggles out front and centre as soon as he was criticised. Rio has battled on in private for the sake of his wife and children, yes at the expense of his performance at work, but would you care about work if you were in his situation?
"Would you care about work if you were in his situation?" Each to their own - When Ferdinand signed his wife was in remission, so they'd battled through this already. Remission is an extremely perilous period with absolutely no certainties, The Royal Marsden Hospital through previous experience in Hodgkins Non Lymphoma is renowned as a Cancer Clinic. The Royal Marsden situated on the Fulham Road SW3 is in London. I'm just saying - If I was a multi millionaire at the end of my career, and fortunate to be in a position to not need to be thinking about anything other than my family, I know which option I would take. Whether I'd be on Twitter for absolutely ANYTHING on the day of my wife's death is also something that couldn't come into my head. To my mind, Rio Ferdinand showed extremely poor judgment when accepting this offer, as Aqualung so quaintly always points out - there are more important things than football - have a great Summer all, will be back to catch some games in August/September, so may see some of you in person, once and for all.
Loads of us have. However, in most cases when personal life is all over the place, Work is somersaulting you can use as an anchor. Everyone needs something that will keep them grounded in times like that, and it's often work. Don't blame Rio for taking the contract, because whilst remission is always a difficult time, it's also natural to look forwards and not back. I do feel very sorry for him and the kids that the illness returned and there was no escape this time. Whatever your thoughts about his performances for us, he's been through the worst time a husband and father can go through, and doesn't deserve to be abused on here.
I have not had the time to read through all 5 pages of this thread and don't intend to having seen some of the comments on the first page or so, but I will add my tuppence worth. Rio gets offered a contract by the club, one that he accepts and comes to the club on the understanding that the defence will be set up as a back 3 around him. That gets thrown out the window early doors and one thing leads to another and he does not get much first team action. His wife then gets diagnosed with terminal cancer and the first thing people think on here is that he should rush in and ask for his contract to be ripped up, because obviously he is so super rich he has no right to continue claiming any money from his employer whilst he is trying to cope with looking after his terminally ill spouse, and prepare himself and his three children for her death and life after her death. God forbid it should happen to anyone else, but I am sure everyone on here in a salaried job will be sure to rush in to their HR Professional at work if it does and demands that their resignation be immediately accepted with total cessation of pay so they can shoot themselves in the foot financially whilst trying to cope with everything else going on in their lives to ensure their employer is not inconvenienced.
So it would appear that the move to London was a very convenient option for his family. Whilst not playing for us due to either poor form or injury, and also not available due to his Twitter utterances, this didn't appear to crimp his hectic book signing schedule. I'm very sorry regarding his family situation, but still wish he had never been associated with our club for a final old boys network convenient last hurrah pay-day. He should have gracefully retired from football a year ago when he was released by Man Utd.
