Can it be that we don't want to sell Schneiderlin? If so, we will have a miffed Morgan on our hands. Or is ManU calling our bluff?
Now now. No cheap stereotypes on this board. We go for a better class of stereotype here. Morgan's more the Gallic pout, a coffee and gauloise type. He'll just go into a Sartre depression.
Na...I think he will set alight to Southampton Central to stop the trains Isn't that what striking Frenchmen do? All joking apart, is this a glimmer of light for us to keep Morgan or is it LVG playing silly b*ggers to get the price down?
Journalist are not an isolated case, this sort of thing happens in other walks of life. I was asked to provide a specimen of my signature which is now used at the bottom of letters which are sent to my clients, purporting to come from me, and the content of which I do not get to see in advance. Does this bother me? Yes it does. But I think that you sometimes have to decide which battles to fight with the guys paying your wages, particularly when they are powerful and you are a small cog. Since they have yet to send out a flyer advocating the slaughter of the firstborn or some commercial link with PFC, I have decided to let it pass. I would find this annoying, but I think we all know how it works with newspapers. How do you think the scientists feel when their preliminary findings, which were presented with every kind of caveat, get reported on the front cover of the Espress as a "miracle pill"?
I did some freelance stuff before and had some experience in the journalism industry - before choosing a different career! Apparently, the majority of names, particularly in tabloids, on the smaller stories are completely made up. Guessing that is to distance the paper from possible complaints..
I really hope that LVG is not being a prat. Schneiderlin is worth £100m if Lallana was worth £25m. I am sure that Saints won't have declared a price, but surely anything less than the £25m we got for twatbeard will have to be considered selling cheap. I would love Morgan to stay, but not because someone isn't willing to pay a sensible fee for him.
I see that Sky are reporting that we want £30m. On another thread there is speculation that this is saying that Saints are not selling and speculating on Morgan's reaction. If we all remember, he acknowledged that we wouldn't be giving him away. In the current climate £30m is bugger all for a French international who can protect defenders as well as he does, and then fling in the odd 40 metre ball to a forward. If someone won't pay it, then he'll have to stay. But from his comments, I think he is too intelligent to blame Saints for demanding a sensible fee. Whether he will then look to up his pay is another question, of course. Whatever, Saints are doing what they do well, and Morgan has enough sense not to throw his toys out of the pram.
Going to be a pain enduring this drag on (though not as painful as watching Schneiderlin playing for bloody Man United) and I can see it doing so for some time. United are going to try and force us to compromise, we've seemingly done so with Clyne and they probably know we want Clasie but won't get him with Morgan here and are not his only suitors. But, we've shown we can be stubborn when it suits us... Or maybe just like talk before or a deal being done was bullshit, talk now of any deal having a way to go is bullshit and a resolution is closer than now thought. Feels somewhat disappointing that after all the progress we've made that just like last summer I have the desire to bury my head in the sand and wait 'til September, hopefully the rewards for the frustration are just as fulfilling again this time.
I see no reason why we can't complete the Clasie transfer without selling Morgan first; cash on hand shouldn't a problem, and in the highly unlikely even that Morgan stays, there's room for both.
Obviously I don't know the clubs finances, but if we're hoping to sign Toby then that's likely to put a big strain on our cash flow and I doubt the club fancy another loan. We might be able to get Toby and one other, but other deals maybe difficult to progress without sales.
We reported 26.1m cash on hand at the end of '13/'14, and I would expect that has risen since. As most deals involve a portion of the payments made over a period of time, our cashflow should be sufficient to cover any incomings, within reason.
I don't post often anymore but I'm a regular reader, anyway I'm not bothered either way if he stays or goes. I've seen enough from what happened last season to trust the board and the management in replacing anyone (remembering no one is bigger than the club itself etc.) obviously Morgan is a special player that improves our squad, however it does not mean we can go onto bigger and better things without him.....also if he leaves I'll have to change my name which is an inconvenience
