Well it was only a friendly but it signals a new season and it was a welcoming sight last night to watch the sun illuminate the Downs and to see a bit of action at Folkestone.
Friendlies are all about building fitness rather than judging ability but it was hard not to notice how much better Gills' second half team was compared with the first. Garmston, Dack, Hessy Junior and Pritchard looked a formidable midfield and served up some good chances for the strikers. The first half was pretty tame with Loft catching the eye with a few passes that were in a different class to the capabilities of anyone else but he looked bored most of the time. Similarly, Donnelly nudged home a straightforward chance in the first half but looked nowhere near as threatening as MacDonald in the second.
The other noticeable thing in the first half was that one Invicta player looked to pose a real threat and was scythed down more than once by Gills defenders. His name was Ashley Miller which seemed a bit familiar. Perhaps Gills should keep an eye on him.
On the touchline were some old familiar faces and a few new ones. Jason Brown was allowed to stand outside the dugout and retrieve lost balls (seems like he is not Welsh enough to join the management) but there was an air of optimism and the depth of the talent on display looked better than we have seen for years. Edinburgh is a lucky lucky fellow to inherit this lot. Interestingly, Hessy senior and Darren Hare stood in the background with the Gills fans a respectable distance from the new management team. It is good for Dad to support lad.

Many things to feel positive about early doors, but it is early days.

It is good to see JED has managed to achieve the potential in the squad which PT pulled together but struggled to get the best out of, with JED managing and PT scouting we would be very strong!!

Good to hear Cody is looking sharp early on, I thought he was carrying a little extra wait at the start of last season and his form suffered for it
