carrs come under a lot of flack recently, some deserved imo but Ive wondered what sort of targets he did have in mind and whether he was being ridiculously restrained by our spending limits. All this sounds like we are trying to operate at a notch above the usual though.

 

Well the biggest change is the new funds, and more trust in the manager & coaching staff. Carr is just a scout, he does what we can all do, looks at a player & says he's good. It's the board & the spending which is different.

 

Mbemba is the real deal.

aye man but thats it, lot of mumblings that he wasnt the scout that we all thought he was when it seems he is able to find and importantly recognise exactly the type of players and quality we need, and whether they will be within our fincial limits and also, available. I think hes more than just a scout too, isnt he on the board? I might be wrong or overestimating his influence but from what I can gather hes been pretty influential in all or most our recent changes.

I think his reputation has been impugned by our going eventually for his 3rd or 4th choices in the past.

 

No doubt, the bloke is a director of the club. He's certainly not just a scout, he's a big time manager here. I don't think he's a terrible scout in the slightest, and considering what he had to work with he has done marvellous, which is why they've got him on the board with McClaren & the rest. But when I'm referring to these signings, I mean these three would obviously be great signings for us, it doesnt take a beast scout to see it. It takes money, and ambition. That's what we have now.

 

Id say theres more to it than this, yes he recognises great players that may seem obvious to anyone who watches their respective leagues.. but its their availability, temperament and whether they will fit into our system (whatever that is to be, seems we can get an inkling now) amongst other things that are no doubt just as important. I wonder where we would have been without him if we working under the same financial restraints. Look at the mackems, they spend quite a bit but, and at the risk of shooting myself in the foot as I havent really checked their recent targets, i dont see them approaching anyone as exciting as Wijnaldum.

 

I don't know enough about his role to really comment on it really! I'm sure it's much more than I gave it credit for however so I agree with your points.

Jeremain Lens is sunderlands more exciting signing by the way, he's not as exciting as Gini.

 

Does seem so mate, it remains to be seen exactly where we go and even if these two actually sign, but even in the 'tougher' times we still have unearthed ayoze, who is a complete gem. Not to mention being able to take someone like jaanmaat who lets be fair could have gone to a lot of bigger clubs. I heard hes pally with McClaren but i would imagine part of the reason he is now on the board is he may have know exactly where this club should have gone... but as you mention, we were always going for his secondary choices.

 

Ah man , i mean, mines just as much guesswork based on what we already know lol, just seemed to be some unfair criticism over the last year. We will know so much more by the end of the window i suppose. Ive been trying to hang off being either positive or negative till we have something solid to go on, but does seem like things are looking up.
