Very true. Seriously though all joking aside, defence is the one area where you can't afford to have a couple of younguns, regardless how good. The youngest pairing I can remember making a go of it was Ferdinand and Woodgate at Leeds. Even then you had Radebe involved in the mix too. I like the idea of having Colo, Lascelles, Mbemba - but then I'd also want a good age centre back - somewhere in the 24-29 bracket.

Whilst they would hopefully be good acquisitions, Austin aside, there is a lack of Britishness there which is something I hoped we'd address this window.
I'm not accusing foreign players of being bottlers or any of hat garbage but it just feels more "yours" If the players are like you.
That being said, if they are good enough then that is a start

I'd like more British talent too but it is difficult. I just think its good to have a mix on a few levels. I certainly get the identity angle.

Abdennour looks like he might fit the bill... Shame we'd be left royally screwed by him and Mbemba leaving every time the ACON was underway.

Good point. I think we can assume that Congo will enter an unprecidented purple phase if it means bad things for NUFC - the cursed club.

I don't think it's worth the risk of losing 2 first choice CB's even if both aren't from countries that always qualify. Throwing in a youngster / Willo for the important January period would be worse than playing a young pair of CB's throughout the season giving them the playing time.

The issue with this is that the only 24 - 29 year old we're likely to get is going to be another CB that's not used to the league. It's likely to take a season to acclimatise to the league for any new CB. With this in mind having 2 20 year old players in defence will not make much of a difference than having a 20 year old and a 25 year old.

Depends where you get them from though. The eastern block types can settle pretty quickly. I agree it is difficult though. Skrtel and that type. Stoke seem to have had a canny knack under Hughes of getting the right types. Muniesa is a canny foobtaller and while not eastern block he doesn't half get stuck in. Physically he seems to cope well. They went and got that Arnautovic the winger too. Made for the league. Then you get the scandanavian types like Olsson, Okore, Hangeland etc. Just solid types.

That's the only reason I mention Dragovic. Watched him a few times and he looks good. Saying that I have no idea of which clubs might be looking at him or what he might cost. Again there are others. I sya we just follow FM15 and buy Eder Alvarez Balenta  Everyone needs a colombian.

Don't get me wrong I love us investing in young lads, that is when we were at our best under Robson. I just think at centre half, you do need a couple of guiding hands. Colo is pretty injury prone. I am surprised the club didn't buy the centre back as soon as they could to get them a full pre season.

This is not an option for me. Two ACON players would scare the bejesus out of me. Its just asking for trouble. We need to start actually thinking about the make up and building of a squad for football purposes.

Pretty sure that Colo is going to have a bigger impact on the training ground rather than the match day pitch this season.

I seem to remember Skrtl being pretty awful when he first came over here but yes of course there are plenty of examples of both sides of the coin. Maybe I just remember the bad ones more than those that settled well.

It also depends how we are going to set up. If we have 2 in front of the CB's (Gini & Tiote say) then we have a decent screen that can help out the CB's. Krul is also experienced enough now that he should be bossing his CB's about if they are not where they should be.

Yeah surprised is the wrong word. Maybe the phrase expectantly disappointed applies.
