Walter Tull...played with dignity at Tottenham and elsewhere despite racial abuse. First black officer to serve in the British army I believe. Recommended for the Military Cross and killed in action in France 1918.

Lloyd - just as an aside, when did schools start telling pupils in advance what the exam questions would be?

They never did that in my day - mind you, even if they had, I would still have failed.:(

We now have Controlled Assessments, which have replaced coursework, and are a certain amount of our English Literature or Langue GCSE. the exam i just did was 12.5% of the GCSE for English Language. we had a few last year, and have had 2 this year so far. They tell you the question a week before, but you practice similar questions beforehand. You get to take notes into the exam with you, but not in full sentences, and under 200 words.

I wonder if Brian Clough should be in the list? But a good joke for your imaginary speech would be "When Clough was attacked by an irate supporter it was the first recorded incident of the fan hitting the ****".

Maybe not for a school exam....
