Interesting that the Sky narrator mentioned that Østenstad completed his hat-trick, which I think is perfectly justified. The dubious goals committee denied Egil his 3rd goal at the time so, officially, he only scored two goals - boo.! If it had been Beckham... blah blah...
I thought that as well, good to have narrated as a hatrick, (we all know it was one). And your correct if that was Beckham or nowadays Kane it would have been a hatrick all day long.
i get quite fed up with the Dubious Goals Panel. I have seen them deny Saints players perfectly good goals, instead awarding them as own goals. Off the top of my head, Egil's goal. Doddsy's goal direct from the corner, Pelle's goal against Sunderland last season and Mane's in the same match. I have also seen Rooney hit a shot, that was going closer to the corner flag, bounce off a defender and go in - awarded to him. So it's BS, as far as I'm concerned. I don't know the criteria the DGP use, but for me it is simple. If the last shot or touch from the attacking team heads goal-wards, and without any touch from the opposition, the ball would otherwise enter the net, then it is a goal for the last player from the attacking side. If the ball is struck or touched by the attacking side and untouched it would miss the goal, then it is an own goal if it touches an opposition player and enters the net. If there is any confusion or disagreement, one awards the goal to the attacking player. This means that Egil's 3rd goal would stand, and Doddsy's, and Mane's. There might be some confusion over Pelle's goal. Did Mannone save it.? Well no because the ball had enough momentum to roll over the line [believe me I've looked a dozen or more times until I was 100% satisfied, as I have the whole match on HDD]. Bridcutt stumbled the ball in as it was rolling over the line. It was going in, hence a goal for Pelle. Dead simple system and chalk one off Rooney's total.
Just got round to listening to Ronald's first press conference as Man Utd manager! Good stuff. It would have been nice if they had asked him anything about Southampton, but they're just small fry opposition anyway! I know a lot more about all my favourite players: Depay, Martial, Schneiderlin and Shaw. Good stuff.
I remember Kane being awarded a goal when it clearly took a deflection when his shot was going wide, but because he is the FA darling at the moment he was given the goal.........baffling.
No. He'd cost far, far too much. Bournemouth would probably want £15-20mill at that stage of the season.
We're getting bumped way down the table with Bournemouth, Watford and West Brom winning so far - Big game tomorrow!
Haven't the word gurt since I left the IOW in 1968. Didn't think I had an accent until I said 'Ileo'waite' in Newcastle and was told I was a cockney from Holloway!
How the hell can he say not scoring is not a concern ? **** it . To much beer . back on on Sunday . .
Wasn't he saying that he isn't concerned as he has the players to make chances and he thinks conversion will come? Is he likely to say: I am ****ting myself over our inability to score?
I think he means that if your defence is solid and you make chances, you will score and win games. Might as well start with United.
Our offensive stats are pretty bizarre, so there's plenty of fodder if one is inclined to believe that the goals are coming...and plenty of reason to believe the opposite, as well. We have one of the highest rates of shots taken in the league, which is usually a good sign, and are second only to Arsenal in terms of shots taken from within the penalty area. We've gotten the fifth-most shots on target. Those stats are highly correlated with goals scored. However, on the flip side, most of those shots aren't ones with a terribly great likelihood of producing goals...we have a lot of what could generously be categorized as half-chances with a high degree of difficulty, and consequently we have a substantial lead on the rest of the Prem in shots off target. We don't particularly frighten defenses...no team crosses more, but no team embarks on fewer dribbles and we're near the bottom in drawing fouls, as well, which speaks to a lack of movement preceding those balls into the box. It thus shouldn't be a surprise that we're missing the target: a great many of those attempts are coming from bad angles, under substantial pressure from the defense. Our rate of shots taken from close range is decidedly more average. We aren't missing many sitters as we aren't generating many.
