Pinched from a Football thread. Could this be QuarterMoonII reading one of my posts on here? Probably not the only one either!
Yes indeed, some racehorse! Tragic that he was only 5-years-old when he died of grass sickness, an equine illness I'd never heard of before. (Erm, that commentator sounded an awful lot like the UK's very own Tommo. Can't believe it but, if so, that is surely the biggest race he's ever done? Wolverhampton sandpit racing is more his line? ). (Wow. it really was Derek Thompson! Good grief, didn't do such a bad job either, thank goodness the commentary didn't have to end with his copyright words, "that's one for the judge!"). Good Lord, Cyc, do you realise this thread is supposed to be "Discuss Anything EXCEPT Horses". I think we are in for a reprimand from the Stewards? Fine/Ban coming up!
He was a special horse, with the exception of Frankel probably the best for 30 years. Watch his Prince Of Wales stakes victory at Ascot, it's just as impressive from the front aswell. I think it's the sign of a great horse when they can run away from horses from the front. Coming from off the pace requires a lot less ability IMO
Hate to say it but the ladies of team Europe got there comeuppance today losing the Solhiem Cup by just a point after leading by 4 going into the singles. In the final round of fourballs, USA had a very short gimme on the 17th to stay all square, that they picked up assuming Europe had given them it. But the European team claimed they hadn't conceded it from short range, which resulted in the Americans losing that point. It was a very unsporting thing for team Europe to do, so they got what they deserved in the end getting overhauled like that. No sympathy from me
Volkswagen have something all over their face. Will it be the same for Seat and Skoda as well? And others?
Life is sometimes worth more than just business or sport, it can also be about respect and empathy for those of us who find ourselves in the greatest battle of our lives. One such occasion has just recently taken place in Brighton, where Springbok legend Joost van der Westhuizen had a meeting with the World Cup team, Manu Samoa. As he sat in his wheel chair, forced upon him by a motor neurone disease that will soon see his demise, the combined Samoan team sang a hymn to him. It's a wonderful sight.
I have a Skoda Octavia Greenline Diesel, reckon i can get a claim in for the grief of poisoning the planet yet, it has caused me sleepless nights thinking about it
I don't think that's the point Malafets. As far as I can understand it, it is not that Volkswagen Diesels have the wrong emission data and therefore as you may rightly say be actually poisoning the planet. The point is that VW built into their cars' governing computer an override that fooled the test. Volkswagen are allegedly acting as criminals to gain advantage for themselves over other car manufacturers. As someone has just said on the BBC website this could be their Libor moment.
Volkswagen are having a Tesco time. Shares down 20% yesterday, they are down 17% today. They built up such a good reputation and now it is in tatters.
What is George Osborne doing sucking up to the Chinese? The London Stock Exchange does not need a tie-up with the casino Shanghai Stock Exchange, providing it with an open door to worldwide contagion. We have enough bad debt already without bringing in new debt from the World’s second largest economy. Their stock market is just a lottery with very expensive tickets, most of them underpinned with personal debt. At the moment, its crash has had a limited effect outside of Asia because of its closed nature and Chinese monetary controls. Given the lack of information available about the economy of China, we have no idea how bad their debt problems have become and how they could bail out their banking system if required. Whilst I am sure that many British businesses would like access to Chinese markets, do we want to become too heavily aligned with a communist regime whose human rights record we frequently overlook as an inconvenience?
My apologies, Mallafets and ArchersRoad for misunderstanding, thought AR was having a go at me, will also talk to my shrink about paranoid problem too. So, it seems the EU nations have by majority reached an agreement on a migrant quota plan. Haven't read the details yet, but my first thoughts are that it will be a hell of a lot of work for Greece, Italy, and Spain too? Apparently, the migrants will be distributed and transported from point of arrival? As I said, have yet to read-up on it. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-34329825
Given the way British companies are queuing up to do business with Iran, I think we know the answer to that question. Thought you believed in free trade QM?
The Volkswagen story shows that Capitalist greed is completely out of control. If this remains unchecked, I am convinced that the human race will kill itself one day with some sort of profit-driven intervention in our food chain (TTIP anyone?)
I was responding the Archer above Swan. The "deal" reached today on the EU is all a con job. QMV got the deal through as you can't veto against something you do not like as Hungary, Slovakia etc found out today, so basically they do not exist as a country as they will always be outvoted, QMV sealed the deal as the EU being a "country". What you will get now is upwards of 10m migrants coming to Europe over the next few years, there is approx 40,000 per day arriving at present. They will get the right to be in Europe as refugees and will never leave. They will over the next few years all congregate in UK, France where most Muslims are and Germany. The ones relocated to places such as Poland, Austria, Czech will simply use their right to travel freely and quickly move on as they are not wanted there and will soon see this as the case. These people are mostly Muslims and will do as other Muslims do and have done and move into the same areas. Big problems are on the horizon with this as history tells us.
I really hope countries like Hungary, Poland and the Czech republic will unite now and say "You know what Brussels? **** you". It must be clear that the EU need them more than vice-versa. ****ing joke of federal dictatorship.
